In today matches we had a surprise, the "poweful" Juventus draw 2-2 with Djurgårdens at Delle Alpi after been 0-2 in the score

Also Benfica won 1-0 the 1st match against Anderlecht.

I saw the match Juventus-Djurgården.

Djurgården gave priority to their defence and Juventus had big problems breaking through and Djurgården created lots of chances on their counter attacks in the first half and the HT score was 0-1.

In the 2nd half Djurgården quickly expanded their lead to 0-2 and after that showed way too much respect for Juventus. Juve took over the game completely and scored two quick goals, which was totally fair.

Two away goals! Juve have it all to do now in Sweden...apparently this is the first time they've ever had to go thru a qualifier for the CL. Capello is one of my favourite coaches and I hope he succeeds at Juve but good luck to Djurgarden!

Juve seem very weak this season. They used all their best players against Djurgården (except Nedved who's injured) and they couldn't beat them even though Djurgården are a really weak team, especially this season (bottom of Swedish Premier Division).
Juve are lucky they don't face a better team than Djurgården in this qualifiers.

Dynamo Kyiv (Ukr) 1 - 2 Trabzonspor (Tur)
After this loss Dynamo Kyiv head coach Alexey Mikhailichenko was sacked by the board.

Very interesting. For many years Valery Lobanovsky was head coach of the best Ukrainian team. After his death (RIP) his assistant and former player Alexey Mikhailichenko was promoted to this post.

Now Dynamo's president Igor Surkis must look for new coach. Will it be Ukrainian specialist (but who?!) or foreigner (like in second well-known club - Shakhtar Donetsk)?

After this loss Dynamo Kyiv head coach Alexey Mikhailichenko was sacked by the board.
Well-known Ukrainian specialist Jozef Sabo became new coach of Dynamo Kyiv.
Poor choice. Definitely. Old guy with no coaching experience during last some years, with no ideas...
I'm sure Dynamo will achieve nothing in CL and lose Ukraininan championship to Shakhtar.
Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

Good start from Monaco, as they beat a technical yet quite weak slovenian team 0-3, with 2 goals from Kallon and one from 'El Che' and Evra was sent off for 2 yellow cards. He will miss the return leg.
Still, what I've seen is very promising. Surprisingly, playing in 3-5-3 or 5-3-3 (the wingbacks are doing the pistons and give the rythm to the team) can be very spectacular. Although we have to check that with a stronger team. And still, we're not qualified yet... They put 5 goals to FC Copenhagen, away! But I am confident. As I am for Depor to go through.
Cheers!

AS Monaco FC 6-0 NK Gorica (agg: 9-0)
FC Internazionale 4-1 FC Basel (agg: 5-2)
Liverpool FC 0-1 Grazer AK (agg: 2-1)

Monaco is furious! 6 different players scored 6 goals!

Rosenborg made great deal! They scored the vital goal on the last minute of the game! And in overtime they scored two goals more!

Anderlecht destroyed Benfica... The score is rather unexpected.

Great game from Monaco, where Gorica couldn't do the same trick as they did to Copenhagen.
Chevanton, Bernardi, Kallon, El-Fakiri, Farnerud, Adebayor (+3 assists) all scored. It must be said that from the 40th min., the slovenians played with one man down, the guy received 2 yellow cards.
Adebayor was the man of the match, he really was at the center of every trick, and deserved to score on a penalty kick at the end of the game.
Now, I hope this qualification (obtained with the manner) will convince an additionnal forward player to sign in Monaco. Maybe Saviola, after the Olympic games final.

BTW, good game from Depor, congrats ! Ready for the same journey as last year ? I am !

lol ok ok, there will be some special feeling when we will meet. Can we foresee already a meeting before the match for those coming here ? I hear a 'friendly' meeting. Now, I think Monaco is bit weaker this year (unless Javier Saviola comes to play with us) as our forward lines and our gaming organization has deeply changed. But our defense has strengtened and that should be a good point. How about your changes ? Is Depor as tough as last year ? I heard that maybe D'Alessandro will be transfered to Depor. This will be a nice shot, cos' he is really impressive.
Anyway, ready for a new exciting CL season !
Cheers !

True, and Kallon is really impressive too, but so far, we only met kinda small teams and we even lost against Caen. We have not yet a reference match.
But the team seems to be ok. If Adebayor always play like he did against Gorica, well, then, I will not be too worry, even if we don't get our wanted forward (Saviola). Now, if the Argentinian comes here, then, I think we will give much more problems to opponents defenses, as we will have Nonda, Saviola, Cheva, Kallon, Adebayor and Camara. Remember, we will not play with a true midfield player, and without side midfield players like last year with Giuly and Rothen. It will be a very interesting season.
As I said, the most positive point is our defense and defensive midfield which appear to be more compact, experienced and reinforced with great players (Modesto and Diego Perez).

We'll see.

As you've seen during this weekend where the spanish liga started, none of the Group A team made a great match.
I didn't find any score results for Olympiakos though.

Lens - Monaco : 1 - 1
First serious match and a draw at the end. But it was a very intense and high level match. Both team were able to win. Monaco scored early in the first half with Kallon (7th min) while Gillet equalized on the 42nd min on a free kick. Not a bad draw.

Espanyol - Depor : 1 - 1
You played with one man down from the 23rd min. It could have been worse.

Bolton - Liverpool : 1 - 0
Poor match from the reds. No inspiration.
After their poor performance against Graz, they couldn't raise their level. Apparently, they need more time to adapt to the new system.

And, frankly, this I expected this result.
Season in Russia is at its height, in Portugal it only starts.
CSKA is on the top of the form at the moment and Porto sold many players and changed the coach.

This was double-edged game. Both teams had chances to score but both keepers were great. Especially Akinfeev. This 18-years-old boy makes me wonder!

I watched that game too. There were 3 on the TV live but the Celtic - Barca game looked the most exciting with a better atmosphere.

I must admit also that Barca did look very good for the first hour especially. It was great to Celtic equalise though and then I thought Barca showed some serious signs of wobbling. Unfortunately though, they got the 2nd goal and once that went in they seemed to take control again.

I saw bits and pieces of the Arsenal/PSV game and from what I saw, Arsenal did not look particularly impressive.
Chelsea on the other hand looked pretty good. They were gifted the first goal but they were worthy winners and it's hard to imagine them not winning their group.

hm hm... Ajax - Juve was a good match of Ajax, better than I expected. First half wasn't good, Ajax were only busy with disturbing Juventus play. That was ok, but Nedved scored a beautiful goal. The only thing was he deserved red... he had yellow, and gave a absolute rude kick to de Jong... :( But second half Ajax dominated more, and got very, very good chances to score... Juventus deserved to win, but a draw wasn't unfair either... Koemam made again a big mistake... Sneijder, who was playing very, very good the second half, subsituted for de Mul :( that was the point the believe was gone for the most I guess...

Against big clubs they play there best football.

Ajax-Juve .... great goal from Nedved... i hope he doesnt injured.

0-3 to Leverkusen! Sweet! :howler:
Pity that Lyon didn't finish Man Utd in the first half... they were close to a third goal...
Yeah! Absolutely agree!

Sorry for the Dutch people here, but I just can't stand Van Nistelroy... for me he's at the same "category" as Raul or Ferguson... :yuck:
Strange to hear... I hate MU but I like van Nistelrooy! He's high-leveled forward and he is very courageous man!

I agree with Xoan too.

There is no doubting that Van Nistelroy is one of the best strikers in the Champions League but Jeez , he really annoys me.

Part of that annoyance is not really his fault I guess because one of the reasons I don't like him is because he has a habit of getting Man United out of trouble , just when you think they are beaten. There are plenty of other reasons too though.

One good thing about last nights results was that we were the most successful Spanish team :D . OK it's not much consolation but it's better to be positive than to analyse our chances this year too deeply.

I hope for a 3-0 Kiew win and some home games suspension for Roma, but I doubt that those so called football-fans (apparently it was one from the VIP-tribune!!!) will learn from such a punishment...

Rooney is a very good striker.
With him England had won the EM in Portugal.
I hope his difficult character isnt a problem for his fotball life.
ManU have excellent striker. When the defence are in a good form they can be play in the final.

Leverkusen was unlucky and of course stupid :(
Kiev had the chance to win 6 or 7:2 after Leverkusen had leed 2:1

Great seconde halftime from Madrid. The first halftime was the Madrid of 2004 :) I cant understand why AS Rom are so weak in the seconde halftime :(

Monaco seems to be not the best competitor for la coruna but every competitor in this group can be beaten of la coruna.

Juventus had made a boring game.

I watched the game between Dynamo Kyiv and Bayer Leverkusen. What can I say? Leverkusen always played poorly against Kyiv... With many stupid mistakes. Very bad denending... Very low discipline on the pitch (I mean not fair play but tactics).

Leverkusen's performances are very unequal. They may crush Real and then lose some games at a run...

Dynamo seems to be all right this year. They have good midfields and attackers. But defence is rather mediocre. I'm sure that every well-organized team withe good assortment of players will beat them. Not easily of course.

Well, I'm very disappointed with the result! I wanted Bayer to win... :sigh:

I consider there were some reasons for Makaay transfer.
1. Bayern is grandee of European football. Depor is not. For Makaay it was better to go to the more competent team.
2. I'm sure his wage is larger now.
3. We got good sum of money for him.

At the same time we had to buy someone in his place for this money (like Monaco in this summer)!!! We didn't. Now we have the result.

I loved the Bremen v Valencia match, not only because a German club won, but the way they did it... From the beginning with 3 strikers, and when they equalised the Werder-coach had the guts to take one defensive player out and bring the 4th (!!) striker... I enjoyed watching the offensive team win and it coud have been much higher without the brilliant performance of Canizares... That being said, I am sure it won't work every time with this all-attacking strategy, but it was fun to watch...

I don't want to take anything away from Werder and from what I saw of them last year, they were a very good team but I have to say that they got a lot of luck with the decision to send off Marchena.

The first yellow card he received was outrageous and I can't believe the ref (Mike "where's my glasses?" Riley), couldn't see that it was a dive worthy of an oscar.

I agree though that it is great to see attacking play rewarded and I'm kind of glad they won.

So, I was at the match yesterday, and I was in the middle of a greek crowd ! We were 5 or 6 monaco fans in the middle of hundreds of greeks who didn't go where they were expected to be seated.
But that was cool as Monaco refreshed the atmosphere only minutes after the beginning of the match.
The 1st half was very impressive and Monaco looked like they were mastering their subject. In the 2nd half, Deschamps reinforced the midfield by putting out Chevanton and Kallon and this didn't arrange much the match, although, it was getting harder for the greeks to score. But we couldn't anymore produce the same game and, physically, the players seemed to suffer a lot.
Yet, we won and we're ahead of the group so, I cannot really complain. Also, we should have Nonda as an additionnal strike force for the next game in Greece.
But this year is tougher than last year as there is no easy match.
You did well in Anfield rd not getting a goal, even though it seemed that your were clearly dominated the whole game. There is still a chance for you to qualify if you beat Olympiakos and Liverpool (not us!).

Dynamo Kyiv vs. AS Roma

I watched this game yesterday. Not all 90 minutes but till the 1st goal was scored. Very boring. No one dangerous attack in the 1st half!

If Roma plays with such people in starting eleven I'm not surprised at their results this season! :eekani: Only Dellas, Cassano, Perrotta and Mido are well-known players! :eekani: Cassano with captain's band on his arm! :eekani:

the first halftime was leverkusen time and seconde one the half from madrid.
Leverkusen missed a seconded goal after the 1:0 lead but they had also luck in seconded half time :) btw the penalty ! and the post hit !
Great pass and work from figo before the 1:1.

But Leverkusen had a lot of chances to made the seconded goal...the defense from madrid was very sick !!!

1:1 is a fair result.

I still fancy Inter to go on and lift the trophy!

Upfront they have the best player in the world at the moment in Adriano who has avereged a goal a game for over a year now in the hardest league in the world to get goals.

With Zanetti, Vieri, Stankovic, Davids, Veron, Cordoba and many more playing well they should progress past Porto. They also play very good football and have been very entertaining this season.

Disappointed, but, I don't know why, a bit confident for the return leg. We always play better when we're under pressure and have nothing to lose. PSV is a very tough team to play as they move as a solid and tall block. We will have our full squad for the return leg (with Chevanton and Squillaci back) and will have more offensive options. The other thing is we also know now how they play compared to last year so, tactically, we may have the edge against them. At least, I hope so !

It's not pretty and when a team does it, it makes the game much less exciting but I can see why Mourinho did it.

For the most part I thought Chelsea defended well and threw themselves at most things although Carvalho must have got so bored with the boring defensive game that he nodded off to sleep when Etoo slipped in behind him.

The game was not even close to the game I was hoping for but when you play Barcelona in the Nou Camp, you have to be prepared to defend and not throw too many forward and leave big spaces in behind.

Mourinho can't complain about Deco's too much as he profited from it all last season but I really can't understand why Deco wasn't booked for it, when it was right in front of Frisk and he saw it.

Does anyone know what Mourinho was unhappy about at halftime? He apparently said "You can't do that, I will report you" to Frisk.

What a first half.

Chelsea looked dangerous on the counter attack and seemed content to surrender posession and hitting Barca on the break. Then as soon as they got 3 goals up and had a foot in the next round, they seemed to sit back alot more and invite Barca to attack.

I want Chelsea to win this tie but I thought it was a penalty. If that had been against Depor and not been given, I would be going absolutely mental.

Ronaldinho showed some real class for the second goal but I can't help but think that Lampard could have got in a challenge instead of admiring Ronaldinho's ass wiggling.

Hope the second half is as good as the first and hopefully now that Chelsea need a goal again, they might not sit back too much.
