Hello Deportivo Fans, and football fans in general,
I wanted to know what you were all thinking about Monaco. I can tell you more about them if you want and I expect Monaco and Deportivo to go through to the next round.
I know that Monaco is not a real 'football' city like La Coruna is, or Athens and Eindhoven. But, even if we are not much, we support our team with all of our heart and believe in the tradition of a nice, technical and offensive game.
I wanted to say good luck and good game to all of you (greek and dutch fans too!) and let's have an nice and open European championship!

Welcome :)
For me Monaco is one of the surprises of CL (with Stuttgart), you have good players like Morientes, Giuly and Cisse, to me you are superior to AEK and PSV and have great chances to go through.
Welcome :)

i couldn't agree more
I think Monaco is great team.
All teams in CL are great but I have seen Monaco in tv a few times and it looks good. Nice football you are playing. I am so new in this football thing that I can't tell how would i grade you along PSV and AEK. But I hope that Monaco and Deportivo are the two teams to continue.
We'll have 2 interesting games soon. Personally I think Monaco's style is good for Depor so I'm optimistic about the next matches but this is football so you never know for sure what's going to happen.
I think it will be an open game, since our team has best arguments in offense than in defense. Now, it is true that I was surprised by the obtained level of our defense. Squillacci (which is called in the national team), Rodriguez, Evra, and Givet are young but very aware of the level of the competition. Moreover, as you said, Cisse is a fantastic defensive midfielder who doesn't hesitate to go forward.
The key will be here: Who is going to take control of the midfield and who is going to keep the ball.
Cheers!
Welcome to the board!
Absolutely no doubt about it: Monaco is a fantastic surprise this year (and I must admit I see them still better than Stuttgart...), I hope we'll see really interesting two matches against Depor, and yes, from what I've seen up to now I agree and say Depor & Monaco will go through if they keep their level up...
BTW. we already had some nice introductions/presentations from other teams here, like AEK e.g. (http://www.deportivo-la-coruna.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659&highlight=aek+athen - huh the Player Pics are no more?) would you mind to present us Monaco here too? Big thanks in advance!
I have big respect for Monaco and I've always had!! But I think they were better a few years ago.
But so far they have been a big surprise in CL!

Bonjour Deportivo Fans

Good luck for the champion's League and i hope you will be in 1/8 with ASM because we are the two best teams of the group.
This year we have a magic young team with greats players (Morientes, Giuly, Rothen, Prso, Zikos, Bernardi, Roma, Evra, Squilacci...) and i think the two next matchs will be interresting.

Thanks !
What do you think about Morientes ? He played five matchs with ASM with very good stats. Why he don't play in national team ?
Thanks !

What a pity for ASM fans ! The match DEPOR/ASM isn't broadcast. French TV prefer Bayern/Lyon.
A question for the Monaco fans... How is Hassan El Fakiri doing? I heard he's been playing regularly lately. Does he have a future with Monaco, or will you try to replace him with a better player?
(and why does he play in the right back position for Monaco, instead of on the central midfield? That's where he used to play for my local team, and for the Norwegian national team too!)

that proves one thing: no taste

For the moment El fakiri has been replaced by Ibarra ( ex-Porto) because Didier Deschamps prefer the experience of the Argentina player. Hassan is an important player of the staff ; he can play on midfield too but he isn't the better to this station (Zikos, Bernardi,Cissé). El Fakiri accept this situation ; he has a very good mentality.
As I said before on this forum,I saw Monaco play this summer against Brujas (Bruges in French) and I know since that match that they have a very strong team.So I guess they shouldn't have a problems going true, after SuperDepor of course!
Here is a quick view of each member of the team:
- Flavio Roma: He was playing in the italian second division when he was hired by Monaco. Since then, he is the no1, in front of Tony Sylva, who is also an excellent goalkeeper (remember the world cup?).
In Defense:
- Julien Rodriguez: 25 years old, he is, with Sebastien Squillacci, the wall in front of Flavio. Very serious in the game, he is not the kind to go forward, but more like a security guard, always doing a clean job.
- Sebastien Squillacci: The one who's raising! Same thing as Julien, a rock. Sometimes he goes through, but it is rare. He is also very skilled with his head.
- Hugo Ibarra: As soon as he started on his side, we could see the potential. Very dynamic, he has also a good vision of the game.
- Gael Givet: Usually placed in central defense, he recently appeared on the right wing (in place of Ibarra), doing a very good job for someone not used to.
- Patrice Evra: One of the best left wing in Europe (behind Bixente Lizarazu and Roberto Carlos) from what I think. He is one of those who doesn't hesitate to go forward, supporting midfielder and forward. Very good association with Jerome Rothen.
- Hassan El-Fakiri: He is a multi-role player. He can play on the right wing, in midfield but also in forward midfield. Can be a very good player for assists. He is in competition with a lot of people to get in the team but his multi-functionnality is a big plus!
In Midfield:
- Lucas Bernardi: Impressive! This guy, with Zikos, is a remarkable in ball steal. It is very hard to pass him.
- Andreas Zikos: One of the key player in the team, unfortunately injured for about a month. This guy has incredible technique and self-assurance.
- Edouard Cisse: The link between midfield and forward. Usually a defensive midfielder, with Didier Deschamps, he became a third midfielder, usually supporting the offense. He is a revelation in the team.
- Jerome Rothen: The magical left player. He can do whatever he wants with the ball on his wing. He has an extraordinary potential to keep the ball, and a precision in his assists... Fantastic!
- Ludovic Giuly: The bomb! This guy is full of energy and represents himself the spirit of this team. Hardworker, harrassing the opponents, he is the first line of defense. Technically incredible, he has enormous accelerations and ball protection. And now, he scores!! A monument!
- Jaroslav Plasil: A new Zidane? When I saw for the first time this young guy, I thought of a child going to see the sharks! But then, I was in admiration of his techniques. He is really exceptionnal, and has an enormous progression potential.
In Offense:
- Shabani Nonda: It should have been HIS year. It will not be. He was becoming one of the best striker in Europe. Next year for sure!
- Emmanuel Adebayor: Shabani's complement. He is the trouble-maker in a defense. Always at the limit of off-side, he has lots of power with the feet as well as with his head.
- Dado Prso: The real sriker. This year should be, like Shabani, his year. Each time he gets in the game, he scores! Very opportunist!
- Fernando Morientes: we don't need to present him. It is a real surprise for us to have him and we are glad! I think Monaco is the kind of club he needed to jump back as one of the best forward in the world.
- Souleymane Camara: 21 years old, still young, but he has a lot of potential. He needs to be more calm in front of the goals but he is very fast and quite technical.
The team plays usually with a 442 schema, but can change in a 532 from time to time, putting Cisse in the midfield. We use the wings a lot, but we have now, thanks to Morientes, more options in the axis. This team is very interesting and has a lot of potential.

I checked that a few people bet for a draw between Depor and Monaco for the next match. What are the weaknesses of each team compared to their adversary's advantages? I mean, do you think Depor's forward will easily go through our defense? Or do you think your defense is too strong for our offensive players? Is Monaco midfielders not better organized than yours? I am just launching a debate!
Depor has a strong defence so no matter how strong monaco's offence is i don't think they will break. on the other hand we have good attackers and good attacking players that can break the defence of monaco so i think depor will win and i think Valeron might make the difference
Welcome to all Monaco supporters! ;-)
Thanx Leon! A pleasure to meet true supporters!

A question:
Olympique Lyonnais, AS Monaco FC and Olympique de Marseille had a good start in CL: in 6 games 4 wins and 2 defeats, it's a improve from the last season results were the France teams only had one victory in this tournament. Is this a coincidence or it's a new beginning from the French squads?

not it is not a coincidence, because recently "the large" clubs return strong and keep their players. Now one awaits the confirmation of the French clubs in Europe . i'm afraid for marseille and lyon because it will be difficult versus porto and munich but i hope, for Monaco : NO PROBLEM ;) , i think they will be the first team of the group  (i'm really impressed by your favorite team but Monaco is really better........).
one thing for the description of the players, i think rodriguez is not fabulous as in the description....

Well, there is a major difference between last year and this current season. The three teams involved in the Champion's League are the most experienced (except Lyon but they have the potential) from the french league.
Also, this is true for this year, but it might not be the same next year. Our championship is the only one to have so many different champions from one year to the other, except this last 2 seasons when Lyon won the title twice.
A key difference also is that, for the first time, we welcome in our championship 2 european football stars (Elber and Morientes) as well as the come back of Steve Marlet. Coincidently ;) , each one is in one of the team involved in the champion's league.
Despite all of this great things for us, our championship suffers from 2 major drawbacks: clubs are strictly checked on their financial side, so they cannot buy players if they don't have the money (unlike Madrid, Lazio, As Roma...).
Because of that, our teams cannot have the desired squad to fight on both fronts, home league and European league. And that may be a reason why we have so many different french champions, because the ones on top of the league are too tired to handle both championship. Either they miss the Champion's league, or they miss the home championship, or both!
Hopefully, this year, we might see something interesting with our french clubs, as they are the strongest in our league. Also, it might get more people interested in the Ligue 1 championship.
Of course, I put all my wishes on Monaco, and I hope they will get to the semi-finals like they did last times.
Cheers!

don't think monaco is better, we got a more desent team then Monaco plus we have a great defence a desent midfield and a killer offence. name one player on the monaco squad that is better then Valeron or Luque? Morientes isn't as good so i can't think of another.

and if there is a problem, there is PRSO, if he isn't injured...
I think both teams are technical. The difference is that, except Morientes, nobody, except the initiated ones, knows about the value of our players. I don't know how well they will behave against La Coruna, and that's why it will be the reference match. You will have the advantage of playing at home, so it will be hard for us, but Monaco likes that.
Monaco supporters obviously know the technical skills of Rothen, Giuly, Roma, Bernardi, Prso,... but it will be a first time for a lot of players to play against a major club like Deportivo.
Now, my point of view is that we are the outsiders, and the pressure will be on Depor, since we're ahead. I expect a big surprise coming from our team (at least I hope!!! :p ).
I know the value of Rothen. I've seen him play a bit last season and this season a little too, and in the Confederations Cup. I find him a very good winger. But he's been sort of nervous in the minutes he's been given in the French national team and has been like under his real level, so possibly he'll also get nervous against us?
I also know Prso and Giuly. But they haven't been consistently good in the matches I've seen them in, so I'm not sure. If Prso is in the playmaking form he was playing for Croatia this weekend, then our defence will have to watch out. Cause Morientes has the abilities to finish the chances he creates.
i have seen a few matches of Monaco but i am not really impressed. however i was inpressed with the way depor played defensively against Psv and how Ajax managed to keep Brugge totally shut out. but i admid the game against Psv from Monaco was sollid only in the second half they came under a lot of presure but they proved they could handel it. I don't think Monaco is great right now but they got potential to become great in the nearby future.
Will some of you come to Monaco to support your team?

Hi guys! I´m back again!
I can just acknowledge that Monaco is a strong team at they destroyed my beloved AEK :depresse: . BUT you still have to remember that this game was the badest I´ve seen from AEK in years. I´m sure Monaco supporters remember our defence who was like not there! It was terrible and I hope that we will never have such a game in CL again because now all of Europe thinks that we are such a bad team for real
Well, I´m sure that Monaco - Depor will be a great team!! Let´s look forward to tommorow evening in the coolest group of this years CL :D
I am sure this was the worse match because you didn't deserve to lose 4-0, and we were very luck not to take one goal in the fist quarter. After, it is true that your defense was very passive, which gave a lot of space for our midfield and forwards.
I hope that AEK-PSV will be as spectacular as Deportivo-ASM. Now, it is true that this forum is a good one, where fans can share their point of views and feelings, even though we are not supporters of the same team.
Concerning the match of tomorrow, our defense will not be as weak as the one against Auxerre. Bernardi, Givet and Evra will be back in the team. Still, we will miss Zikos and Rodriguez. I think we gonna start with 5 defenders, 3 midfilelders and 2 forwards at the beginning. I believe that Cisse will first be put in defense and then, depending on the situation, will move forward in midfield. The key will be not to take a goal in the first 10 to 15mn. Otherwise, Depor's forwards would kill us immediately. I hope to see an open game and not a one-way game. The result of this game will set the value of Monaco on a European set. Even if we lose 2-1, it will still be a not-so-bad result. But I think we are going to be more dangerous than AEK, who drew there. So... We shall see! ;)
Depor drew with AEK in Greece not Spain.
Mauro Silva, is out of tomorrow's game with an injury :(
Ooppss!! Sorry! My bad! They played PSV at home, true! So, it was even a better result for Depor to draw in Athens, knowing how hot it is to play over there!
But I still believe in my team!!
In fact, I really don't know! I just hope that Giuly, Morientes, Rothen and Prso will be at their best, so they can reply to Valeron, Tristan and Naybet.
I know that some people have reservations about Morientes,But I think he is a very good forward and his goals to games ratio is excellent.

I want to come in Monaco (MonteCarlo) at 5. of November to see match between Monaco and Super Depor. I tried to find on web easiest way to come in Monaco by train, but railway connection between Ventimiglla and Monaco is very bad (according internet only once train per day). So,please tell me easiest and chipeast way to come in Monaco from Italian sight (because I come from Croatia, from east sight ), by bus, train by... I don't know
Mayebe You can tell me something about deperturing Monaco after the match. How is possible to leave Monaco after the match ( after 22 30, bus, train???),because I suppose that would be very expencive to sleep somewhere in Monaco or spend all night somewhere in casino (maybe same amount og money :D :D :D ).
And my last question will be ... I suppose it will not be problem to get ticket one or two hours before match (I haven't seen full stadion in Monaco, when all tickets are solved). But how many euros ticket for this match will cost?
Thanks for answers, congratulations to Depor players for winning Barca, and message for present Monaco fans: Best regards for Monaco forward and Crataian national player Dado Prso (I hope my cousin will not scored tommorow or 15 days latter :D :D :D )

Because of Bayern Munchen.. they got a lot of fans all over the world and more name then we have.
Dutch Canal plus are also suckers.. Last year the showed a lot of Depor, probably becuase of Makaay and now he's out and they prefer not to broadcast a single match! Another thing is: Depor is in the same poule as PSV. Psv can be seen on NOS (dutch public TV), so normally Canal plus broadcast the other match in the group.. thats our game.. but I see no match :-(

Yesterday, we made a draw in Sochaux. I saw some very nice move, especially at the beginning and at the end of the match. Sochaux is a really tough team to beat, and Santos is a very good, yet very agressive forward. They did manage to come back in the game after we scored the 1st goal ( :D a beautiful head from Morientes, with a ball given by Bernardi), and we were unable to remove their harrassing system. We're still at the top of our league, but we start to feel the effects of playing several competitions in the same time. And wednesday, we'll play against Marseille for the League Cup!
No injuries, pleeeeaasse! :(

Every team have 8-10 shots on goal in one game, Monaco just made them all hit the back of the net. And I also blame it on that ugly orange kit that Depor wore. Hell, Monaco was in red/white so why didn't Depor just play in their normal outfit.

Thanks for the team. In my whole life I never watched such a game! It was so strange! It was like Candid Camera!
I was surprised by the attitude of the Depor defense! They were so passive, and yet, we felt that Depor could score and come back at anytime. Also, I never saw the stadium so filled up for our team, which, I think, shows the attraction your team has and the respect you deserve. There was not that much supporters of Depor, even though, and I don't know how and why, at the end of the match, the corner of the stadium where your supporters were got more and more people! There was even 4 round of 'ola', I never saw that in Monaco!! Really, this match was incredible all the way! Now, I wish our teams will go through, because PSV is coming back, and it is a tough team to beat!

At least we didn't lose 10-1 like El Salvador in world cup 1982  , boy!, that's a big shame for our country
Like I said Monaco was the hardest team in the group to beat but I didn't expect anything like THIS. Damn shame but still nothing is lost.
The positive side is that this game will be a switch after games Mallorca and Murcia,I hope that after yesterday Depor will continue their great start they had before.
i think this game set Depor thinking, they played bad for 3 games now and that is Depor Unworthy. i hope they figure out what they did wrong
- Who would you like to meet on the next round?
- Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco?
- I know that Depor has the ability to go up to the final and maybe winning it. But since it is a topic on As Monaco, up to which round can Monaco go? (Be fair, please!! )

- Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco? Juventus (they have the better start on this season)
- I know that Depor has the ability to go up to the final and maybe winning it. But since it is a topic on As Monaco, up to which round can Monaco go? it depends on the rivals, it is not the same thing facing Man. U. in next round that playing with Lazio for example. After all you could get till semifinals in my opinion
- Who would you like to meet on the next round?
I would like to meet and beat Juventus, Bayern München (to show Makaay that he's playing for the wrong team) and Man Utd.
- Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco?
Milan has been good so far!! And I like Ajax but I think Depor would beat them. Of course Juve and Man Utd is good too.
But Arsenal and Inter hasn't been as good as I expected.
- I know that Depor has the ability to go up to the final and maybe winning it. But since it is a topic on As Monaco, up to which round can Monaco go?
The quarter-finals and with some luck the semi-finals. But anything is possible and if every game is like the one yesterday Monaco can win the whole CL but I don't think that will happen.
Who would you like to meet on the next round?
English or German teams--we have better performance against them.. ;)
- Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco?
I consider DEpor one of the best teams in Europe---of course, when they are in shape.
As for Monaco: the Italian teams, especially Juve and Milan. Your coach Deshamps is much too influenced by Itlian style and Italian biggies are all quite good in coping his stredegies... :o
- up to which round can Monaco go?
I think you have the potential to pass the eighth final. You do have some talented players, and you play quit well as a block. With some luck maybe even 1/4 finals???
Who would you like to meet on the next round?
Juve or Bayern or Man U
- Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco?
I think Juve on this moment, but if Depor plays good again they can beat them. and i don't give Ac Milan a lot of credit i just think they were lucky against Ajax and Brugge (and they really were lucky 2 late goals of AC while the opponent was better) the rest of the best clubs all lost already and some play terrible (Arsenal, Inter)
- up to which round can Monaco go?
Depends, i don't know against what playing style they can't play but i think if they will face an Italian opponent (or a good dutch opponent heheh, remember Lyon last year?)

Who would you like to meet on the next round?
** VfB Stuttgart.
- Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco?
** Juve, ManU, RM. But i hope we can beat all of them.
- up to which round can Monaco go?
Such a game against Depor is surely a confidence-booster for Monaco. If your team meets ManU, Juve, Milan, Bayern, Real Madrid etc, i would likely support your team against them... and even hope that you give at least one of these big boys the dressing down you gave us :D I think Monaco can make it to the quarter-finals, hopefully at the expense of one of the big boys i mentioned above.
For my part, I think meeting a big team will enable you to 'transcend' and forget definitely about the scoring against Monaco. So, meeting Arsenal, or Bayern (where both have very good wing players, be careful!) can be a good kick in the players' motivation.
I think that Juventus, Chelsea and (yes, I know!) Real Madrid are better than your team, and obviously than us. Now, they are all beatable!
Finally, I think we can make it to the semi-finals, if we don't get too much of injuries, or suspended players. On one match, we can, indeed, beat anybody, but the truth of today is not the one of tomorrow! ;)
Who would you like to meet on the next round?
A big team, because I know for sure that Deportivo will be kicked out by teams like Stuttgart and Lyon. My preference goes to Juventus as they would be favourites.
Which teams do you think are potentially better than Depor and Monaco?
Not many, but history has shown that the same teams always make the final phase (Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Milan...) Still, Deportivo and Monaco can beat anyone of them.
Up to which round can Monaco go? (Be fair, please!! )
Monaco could lack experience and the extra class of players like Ronaldo, Zidane, Shevchenko, Van Nistelrooy and Makaay have. And the 8-3 win against Deportivo isn't a good reflection of their strength. Still I think Monaco can reach the last 8 or even the last 4.

Personally I don't think now is the best moment for us to meet a "big team" even I wish we can meet Arsenal( which I doubt if they would pass) and Munich , for they are no longer "big" and their style suit us---we shall have no problem beating them.
Losing 8:3 in CL is heavy on any team. We are not talking about a bad defeat in one's proper leagues, that will be noticed and remembered by co-patriots and those who follow that specific league. CL is much more followed than any leagues. This kind of "historical" humiliation will not be easy to take or forget by the players. We need more time, more victories to heal and to re-bulid our confidence...
I agree Juve, Chelsea, RM are all beatable. All teams are( especially on their bad days!) I am not so sure about the better than us part. For me maybe only the Juve is---they do (unfortunately) has a bigger, better squad---means they have not only world class starting players but also quality subs for every position---they have a good coach, an impressive history and big fan base, and a lot of money and publicity at their disposal...and I won't say the same about RM ( too unblanced, relies too much on the galatics) & Chelsea( not just yet..and I doubt it will ever be)
But yes, they are all beatable ;) ...
I would like to congratulate you for having taken back the top position in your Liga, as we kept ours this week-end. It was not easy for you to react positively and you did farely well. For our parts, we did have luck against Ajaccio who played the match entirely in defense. But we're now 3 points ahead of Lyon, who crushed Marseille away. Lyon seems to be a big threat and I wish not to meet them next round in CL. This is the only team to have beaten us in the French league (3-1). If you meet them next round in CL, I'll be supporting Depor! ;)
Anyway, again, Congrats'!
I hope we go throught and then our next rivals will look at us and remember the 8-3 game, that would be perfect. Against us, a confident team is a dead team (remember last times: Bayern one season and Real Madrid at the Copa final two seasons ago).
I wish there was more activities but with the Euro 2004 qualification matches, there are not much news to tell.
All I can say is that Morientes told that he respected the choice of Saez to have not selected him and he was certain of the qualification of Spain for the Euro 2004.
Giuly is in the french team and I hope he gonna play from start in association with Zidane. I know he dreams about it.
Since it is a friendly match against a very good team (Germany), I hope Santini will follow my words! ;)
Other than that, what can I say? Hmmm...
Yes, I have a question: who is watching this forum and supports either PSV Eindhoven or AEK Athens?? That would be an interesting discussion among every supporters of CL's group C.

For our parts, we won against Lens, and I don't know if spanish tv shows some of the goals of the french championship, but if you still can, try to watch the magnificent goal of Ludovic Giuly for Monaco! Impressive, spectacular, perfect, magic!
Man! This guy is getting more and more impressive!
Anyway, good luck to you against AEK tuesday!

Don't be too happy about it.., now Chelsea or ACMilan will buy him  But good result for Monaco.. you think they are going to win the French Liga this year? They look strong........
I saw today Giuly's goal, it's wicked
this guy is on fire
It is always like that! The match seems to be locked, and then, Giuly brings something out of his pocket! This year he seems to be an extra-terrestrian! If you look at his goals this season 'til today, half of them are exceptional (volley, shots from over 20m, bicycle kick, etc...) He is really in confidence! Good for him for Euro 2004.
I don't know if he's gonna leave at the end of the season because he just bought a nice house near Monaco, and he really likes the environment here. If he's leaving, I would understand but he has to remember the story of Sonny Anderson, even though he can also remember Henry and Trezeguet stories! :p
Anyway this year is already exceptionnal, and I hope they will continue to play like that as long as possible!

Wrong! :)
Of course I am hoping that PSV wil beat Monaco, but I think it will be very difficult. A draw is fine too, then we havve everything in our own hands since we will have you guys at home. I doubt that we will win 3-0 though, but anyway...
Regarding tonight, although I fancy Depor, I hope the result will be 1-1, so that no matter the outcome of Monaco-PSV we 'only' need a win in Eindhoven against Depor. Hard chance though.
Well done Depor, very nice game! 3-0 over there is not easy to do in Greece! I saw the goals and it was the game you needed to stay confident. Now, you just don't have to lose by more than 2 goals against PSV. I think you gonna make it with the manner.
For our parts, Monaco, I didn't like this match. The referee was completely out of it!
He sent off a PSV player for having played too quickly a free kick (????), he didn't give yellow cards to some PSV players who made some Judoka stops on Monaco players (cf. Rodriguez' nose bleeding, tackles on Morientes, shock with Bernardi), he didn't stop the game when, I think, Rothen was hurt (then Zikos did stop it and was sent off, and PSV scored on the freekick, which was a nice head, I have to admit), and Giuly was sent off, while Kezman  put his hand on Giuly's face in front of the side referee! I would have accepted that Giuly AND Kezman were sent off, but Kezman just a yellow card, and Giuly a red one, without having received before a former yellow card! UNBELIEVABLE!
I hope not to meet this referee on the street, or I will teach him how to tackle properly on his... anyway...
We are qualified, that's good enough, but I am worry that UEFA will give more than one suspension match for Giuly :depresse: He doesn't deserve it.
About PSV, I knew it would be a hard game bacause they were playing their chances to qualify. but it was again a very weird match. When Monaco were still 11 and PSV 10, it was Eindhoven who was playing and building the game. Sometimes though, PSV just stopped playing! It was so static!
Really, I didn't feel it!
Beware, because they are a tough and skillful team. The 2 koreans were impressive, very agile, and they blocked very well giuly on his side.
Now, we have to rest and concentrate on the Championship, with a tough game away against Nantes.
I hope I wasn't too long.
Cheers!

Haha I saw Juve loosing yesterday evening against Istambul 2:0, what a big fun too see whining Italians all around.... ;)
For your information, Ludovic Giuly will have only one match of suspension for his red card against PSV. That's a very good news for Monaco because he will only miss the next match against AEK, and he will be able to play for the next round!
Tonight, we play against Marseille and I hope that we will send them 12 pts behind us. This will be a tough match though, against a team that needs points to avoid a big crisis. For our parts, we will fight to win against Marseille in Marseille for the first time in championship since 79/80. It's true we beat them last year in League Cup but, in championship, it will have a special flavor!
Anyway, DAGHE MUNEGU!

Ok, back into this thread which I think is more appropriated.
What can I say? We're in final, we played a scary yet fantastic match against Chelsea and we owe you to beat Porto. I know that Monaco is not your club and the deception of getting out like that by such small margin makes you angry and sad.
But, for those who watched some of the Monaco games during this CL, how do you like their way of playing? Monaco always had an 'offensive' attitude, with great forwards (Delio Onnis, Glenn Hoddle, Sonny Anderson, George Weah, David Trezeguet, Thierry Henry, Jurgen Klinsmann, Enzo Scifo, Yuri Djorkaef, Victor Ikpeba...) and it continues with this 'dream' team of unknown stars in Europe, who, now, are looked upon by the giants of Europe. Who knew about Jerome Rothen before this campaign? Or about Ludovic Giuly, Jaroslav Plasil, Shabani Nonda, Patrice Evra, Flavio Roma...?
I must say, now, that we're in final, I am scared to see most of the team to be split in pieces. But something tells me that the ASM board commitee wants to stay on top for sometimes, as I read and watched interviews. Indeed, Pierre Svara announced yesterday his will of renewing the contract to Didier Deschamps from 1 to 3 additionnal years. Also, one of the investors and main sponsor of the club, Fedcom Invest (Alexei Fedorychev) is putting money on the table to sign Fernando Morientes for next year.
If both announces are concluded, man, that will be the first time that Monaco, after a fantastic season, will be able to keep most of their players, the coach and will have a chance to be consistent over time. At least, that's what I wish.
But first, we MUST beat Porto, for us, for you and for Europe!
I am waiting for your reactions... ;)
I really hope you'll win the CL. You're worth it after all these impressive results. 8-3 against Depor could actually be compared to our 4-0 against Milan, considering achievment, but that match wasn't as important as our match against Milan. Anyhow... if you could beat that team 8-3 who beat Milan 4-0 you must be the best, huh? ;)
I'm a bit worried though. Your keeper has proved to be very anxious with high balls. It's required that your defenders can head them away cause otherwise you may get problems.
Your man will be Guily, trust me! Rothen will have some problems with Paulo Ferreira but noone in the Porto defence will be able to handle Guily's speed. Good luck!
Congratulations DUDXS, you must be very happy.I am happy they reached the final. They are a good attacking team. And I like quite a few of their players.
Will Ibarra be able to play v Porto as he is on loan from them ???
As to Monaco keeping their better players I'm not sure.
Ibarra will Porto loan him again??
Morientes will Madrid loan him again??
Guily,Cisse,Prso,Evra will they stay. Not sure I hope they keep most of them and good lck in the final.
Actually, concerning Ibarra, it is a good question. I don't think there was anything written on the contract at the beginning of the season, but I am sure Porto will put the pressure on him not to play the final.
And I don't think he will stay after saying that the fans of Monaco were not 'true' fans. Even if what he said pissed me off, he still has some incredible skills. Don't forget that he's already 30 and he doesn't have many choices as for his future. So, I really don't know what will happen to him.
About Morientes, well, it is hard to know what he wants, since he declared many different things.
Ok, he will love to go back and play for Real again (either next year or later). But he loves Monaco and the place, and, above all, Deschamps.
He declared that if Deschamps was to leave, he probably will follow him (as the rest of the team :( ). Now, it really depends on Madrid and their will to keep him or sell him (probably the later). If so, if Monaco puts the price, and if Deschamps stays, then, Morientes will still be on the Riviera next year. I know, there is a lot of 'if'...
The one who is most likely to leave is Prso. Despite his love for the shirt and being 2nd top scorer in the CL, Monaco still didn't renew his contract. About Rothen and Evra, they are tempted to go elsewhere, but they know they are young and play in a fantastic team,so... It will, again, depend on Deschamps' future. Concerning Giuly, he loves Monaco, he would like to play in England some days, but if he wants to be a full member of the French squad, he has to be regular with his club. Will he take the risk to leave and maybe stay on the bench? Not sure. Cisse will probably be exchanged with Jose Pierre-Fanfan, on loan from Monaco to Paris. It will be as simple as that. Now, we'll see what will happen after the final.
Do you think Monaco can afford Morientes. He will be valued very highly plus he is on about £50,000 a week !!!!
Congratulations dudxs !! :D
Deportivo supporters will be behind Monaco when the final takes places... despite beating us 8-3 your team always has showed respect and good quality football, so good luck!

We dont have to wish good luck to Monaco they allready have plenty. Chelsea were the best team but that is the way it is...
If they were the best, shouldn't they be going to Germany? I think it is unfair to pretend that Monaco is going to Germany because they got the luck on their side. What a luck to draw Real Madrid! What a luck to have the away match at Chelsea for the return leg!
What a luck to have played with 10 men for about 40mn while there was 1-1 on the score board! What a luck to have missed a penalty kick against Lokomotiv Moskow!
Yes, Chelsea provided a fantastic first half! But they should have continued!
I mean, I don't want to be too harsh, but Chelsea were lacking of spirit after Ibarra's goal! That was their chance! They didn't take it, Monaco did. And Morientes has got full credit for the many important goals he put each time we needed it, and there was no luck in that but skill, talent, gifts... and team spirit.
Now, I don't ask you to support Monaco, of course not, but just to be fair and admit that Monaco was the best team over the 2 legs and deserved to go to the final!
But you're not forced to! ;)

I am being fair.
You were very lucky to get a single goal in Moscow.
You were very lucky by drawing crappy RM.
Ibarra's was pure luck and it was properly by hand.
It is allways best to start at home otherwise the second game gets craped up like ours against Porto.
Chelsea were to win the game in Monaco until you got 10 men.
I could go on and on so get real and admit your damm luck...
Alright then, I have nothing to add. I understand that you're pissed. And I will not add on since it wouldn't add much to the conversation. I am just glad that this team goes to the final despite all criticisms. And wish for their success, hoping they will show, in a clearer way that they fully deserved to be at this level.
Depor will have their 'chance' next year as they regularly are among the top of the Liga, and that's not luck I think, with a quality team as they have now.
Should Depor and Monaco meet again, it will be a great match.
Football is made of sweat, skills, hard working, fighting spirit and... unpredictability. And we love that! Only that matters!
Cheers!
Baaah don't be pissed Djalma!
We saw a fantastic football match yesterday and
CONGRATULATIONS DudX as it looks to me like Monaco really deserves it this year!!!
Go and bash the damn Porto in Gelsenkirchen, and whole Spain will be with you (despite some RM boneheads but you wouldn't want these as support anyway..;) )
Nevertheless the first half I saw the BEST Chelsea ever that I could see this year in CL, but they got beaten too much in the first round already and Chelsea is not Depor, that became very clear... We'll see also Chelsea again next year, let them be with Depor in the Group I would have a lot of fun...
Congrats to Monaco again for a fine performance, a fantastic Morientes (what a HEADER!!!) and didn't Prso had a Feet-Bone broken? Too bad he couldn't score another one...
Hope you find a way through Portos ellbows and beat them at least like you've beaten us in winter!!!!!!

Congratuations Dudxs! Did you make it to Stamford Bridge last night?
I was at Stamford Bridge for the game last night, and probably over both legs Monaco deserved it overall. I was actually sat quite close to Prince Albert! He was in the corporate/VIP area and I was in the adjacent stand.
Chelsea played well in the first half and created a lot of opportunites but didn't take them, Hasselbaink and Gudjohsen missed two great chances. Monaco were much more clinical they had about 4 good chances and scored two. We paid the price for being poor infront of goal.
Your support was excellent as well, it was a great atmosphere and I was speaking to some Monaco fans on the way out of the stadium and they're modest, intelligent people and great to talk to.
Rothen is a great player, if you can hold onto him he'll be a fantastic player in the next couple of seasons.
Good luck against Porto.

Chelsea WERE the better team in 2nd match, but it still ended 2-2 so....better team doesn't always win. I think Chelsea dominated the game completely in the 1st half, and 2nd half was quite equal.
Well, I'm still happy that Monaco went to the Final. It's really hard to predict who'll win the final. I hope the winner will be the team which plays more entertaining game....but it doesn't always happen... (Like for example when Liverpool won UEFA Cup, they played that boring counter attack game....)
I really don't agree with Djalma... Monaco were only lucky against Moskow, further they did it on their own, just because they were better. Against Chelsea they won with 10 man... Yesterday the match was equel, and Monaco was controlling the second half...

I have allready explained my points of view so just go back and read it....
then i simply cannot accept your point of view since i always watch the matches of monaco
and i think they play good football and great spirit
although their technic maybe not the best but they are good
The only thing I can add is that, during the whole european campaign, luck appeared to be on both side at some moment, should have it been with the referee, with posts, with injuries, etc...
Luck is part of the game, but it is not all. You can't be always lucky during 8 months or so. Chelsea had its part, Depor, Monaco, Porto too and at the end, you're not looking so much on how well the winner went through, but more on the overall performance and achievements. I have to admit that one of my biggest pride is to have beaten Depor 8-3, not for the humiliation you may have felt, but because Monaco achieved a fantastic match against one of the most technical, skilled and hardest team that were present in this CL. If it was Anorthosis Famagusta (from Cyprus), and I don't want to be disrespectful, this would not have been the same, right? Beating a major european team like yours, especially when, after all, you achieved to be on semi-final, raises the value of this performance. So, I think all of the 4 teams deserved to be there, be it for luck at some moments, but every team got a hand on it. Skills, determination and spirit pushes the chance on the right direction. As I have read on the many post-game posts, Depor didn't play apparently (I didn't see the match) in the way to push the luck on their side, while Porto, despite their seemingly poor attitude went on to provocate and get their qualification. And, as sad as it can be, it is part of the game.
Enough! ;) I am tired of that. If you think they were (too?) lucky, it is your opinion, but at the end, the best team went through.
To ChelseaJT26 : I wished to go there but work and lack of money kept me in front of my TV. I am sure you enjoyed the atmosphere, and I was surprised to hear the monégasque singing at the end!! I appreciated also the attitude of some Chelsea fans clapping when there was a nice move, or tackle. In France, it is rarely the case.

deco will score that for sure even if i hate him because of what happend with andrade
Allez les monégasques! We're all behind you (well, almost) :)
BTW dudxs, it's sad to get rid of Prso like this, he's still a very good player and, in case you fail to get Morientes for next season, a vital strike force next to Nonda too. Funny that all 3 are powerful players in the air and not dribblers but I guess Giuly takes that role.

and the penalty :o
I like Porto people but Monaco play a better football.
Bayer Leverkusen should have won 2 years ago because they were playing greatl the whole season but they lost against RM in the final. Let's hope this time the most enterntaining team can do it.

Ibarra has just admitted that he scored with his hand.... That says it all!
He didn't 'just' say it now, he told it right after the match:
"Je croyais que le ballon de Morientes avait franchi la ligne mais j'ai quand même suivi. Mais finalement le ballon m'est revenu dessus et j'ai marqué. Je n'ai pas réalisé que ça s'était passé comme ça avant de revoir les images du ballon heurtant ma main sur l'écran du stade. La main n'était pas intentionnelle."
In English:
"I thought the ball of Morientes had crossed the line but I still kept going. But, at the end, the ball came on to me and I scored. I didn't realize that it went on like this until I've watched the TV Resume on the stadium screen and saw the ball touching my hand. The hand was not intentional."
I watched the images too and the arm and the hand are close to his body and it doesn't move as for scoring, the ball just bounced back and went in.
I think it was kinda honnest to admit that the ball touched his hand, he was not forced too.
Cheers!

I don't mean to sound bitter, but that's not neccesarily the case.
If Chelsea had kept it 2-0 up until half time I think we could've done it, the goal before half time rocked our momentum and morale and gave Monaco inspiration and belief.

I haven't read all this thread but I don't see any way in the world that Porto can beat Monaco. I mean they only beat Depor by a penalty, so all you betting people get your €€€€€€€'s on Monaco, I have already. Lots of them.

I wish Monaco all the luck in the final. They diserve to win the champions league because they have played the best football this year. And with Rothen they have a brilliant player in the team.

Well, that's a good suggestion for Depor.
Buy Rothen, because he has the best shot/pass/ballcontrol in France.
He is an excellent player

Full Support to monaco, I hate the way porto play how come none of them got a yellow for all the diving they have been doing throughout CL. Its so weird because tristan was the first diver of the match from depor and he instantly saw yellow. But porto no-one got a yellow for diving!!!!!!!!!!( Are we such bad actors???;) baaaahhh I hate chelsea I can only associate money to chelsea not soccer, so those chelsea supporters pissss off!!!... Monaco is classy attacking team. I am hoping the score line is 8-0 on 26th, to monaco of course...pleasing to hear and indirect revenge on porto cos we were beaten 8-3 and 8-0 is worse!!!! muaaaaaaaahahahaha
Question to dudxs:
I wonder how much you paid for Chevantón? And is he on a huge contract or something? It seems like he's a great signing but I just don't know the details.
The details on the transfer fee concerning Chevanton are undisclosed yet, but it is said it could have been for around 10M €, a 4 years contract. With him came another Uruguayan, Diego Perez, a defensive midfielder.
WHat? 10 million! To much man!
Chevanton scored 19 goals last year and was 4th striker of the Calcio. He is playing for his National Team. He is also only 24 years old too.
I think it is a fair price for him. Not cheap but not too expensive.
I know Monaco have signed all these great strikers to replace Prso and Morientes but what have they done to solve their problems on the wings?
Giuly and Rothen must be very difficult to replace.
Monaco is no more playing with true wing players like Rothen or giuly (even though Giuly was not really considered as a winger). Instead, they play now (the last 3 matches) with 4 forwards Adebayor up in front, with Saviola and Chevanton besides him left and right and Kallon as very forward midfielder.
In the midfield, Zikos and Bernardi are the getting balk the ball and are the first launch ramp.
In defense, you have 2 strong defender with Squilaci and Rodriguez with 2 back wings that can go up and add an additionnal force to the attack with Maicon on the right and Evra on the left.
With such a scheme, it requires to the players and especially the forward ones a lot of efforts for the replacements.
This scheme means Monaco is not a team that is able to defend, I mean defend correctly. It is a very offensive solutions that proved to be profitable (vs Olympiacos and Auxerre, even if it was goalless) but is very demanding physically.
