Default LIGA 10/11 | Atletico 2 - Deportivo 0 | 11-12-10 | post.match

Puff. Maybe the owrst game on the season of Depo, after the 1-6 at Real Madrid.

Nothing more to say.

I was my two hours back! Quote from the GolTV commentary "this is the poorest match in terms of quality all season" and "this deportivo team can put anyone in a coma"...

Quite frankly I would rather be in a coma and not have to endure that ever again! I JUST WANT TO SEE THIS TEAM WIN A GAME THIS SEASON!!!!

Ok, I guess I was lucky not to see this one.
Atletico away was bound to be a hard game, but seems like we gave it our worst...

Next time - forzaDepor!

Very comfortable win for Atletico, a 2-0 playing at like 60% of their capability. Only at 1st half, of course, at 2nd half they sat back, relaxed, conceding some space and initiative, hitting back with counter attacks.

During 1st half usually we couldn’t follow their moves. Nothing new about that, nothing unexpected. Atletico have reached a significant level of game play offensively, where high pace in their passing game plus mobility are decisive factors. If you haven’t been tactically prepared, if your concentration isn’t at 100%, it will be difficult to follow their off ball movements. Eventually a player will receive the ball between the two zones facing the GK, a through ball or a combination will follow, usually getting a teammate on a one-to-one situation against the goalie. A team that can easily expose opponent’s offside trap, constantly searching Aguero with passes behind the defensive zone, extremely dangerous from the flanks with wing backs supporting the attacks. As I said, all this -and a lot more- are well known, if Lotina had prepared something for the match I didn’t see it. On the contrary, the team seemed often unfamiliar with the situations the opponent created on the pitch, like facing problems it hadn’t been prepared to deal with. The standard framework we operate during the recent matches, an Atletico comfortably moving the ball, opening corridors the way they are used to, Deportivo never stood a chance.

While opponent’s attitude during 2nd half practically exposed us offensively. Enjoying some useless possession (overall Deportivo’s possession reached 55% according to Espn), posing zero threat to the home team. A team basically improvising (usually through a predictable short passing game), the same way its manager improvised from the bench. No point commenting on his moves during the 2nd half (subs, tactical modifications etc), circumstances of the match were already defined, it wasn’t easy to affect the balances. No point to comment on his initial choices either (some of which were rather controversial given the circumstances expected), what I’m interested in is the big picture. And Lotina has a lot to do so as to improve the level of our game play as well as our defensive stability. I think we have signs of the directions he will follow, we’ll have the time to comment in the process. I’m not talking about formation here, stuff like that, that’s just a diagram on the board, I’m talking about ideas behind formation, ideas implemented through formation.

As for tonight, Atletico’s approach revealed the mentality of a team conscious of its superiority. Coming from a bad streak, facing a must win game, they were never nervous. Missing the penalty didn’t affect them at all, they kept on playing the way they’re used to, absolutely certain that eventually, one way or another, they would achieve their goal. While during 2nd half, with the clock running, they seemed to sit comfortably on the 2-0, losing concentration all the time, committing unforced errors, wasting potentially dangerous situations, and so on. Deportivo never presented a special motive for them, they knew they owned us.

I think in some games you need to change the system or at least improve it

from instant look at our and their line-up I was sure we will lose

playing with juan and tomas in a 5-4-1 formation is wrong / though he played a lot of games still Lotina should have entered with another left-back because Seasone was eaten up like a cake

what killed me is 0 shots at target, I don't remember their goalkeeper holding the ball in his hands not even once .. even the commentator was laughing at A.Thomas wide shot .. he said it's just to gain a shot at target.

1st half: Atletico was superior in every part of the game. We were lucky to concede just 2 goals. It should have been 4-0 at half time.

2nd half: Atletico played very mature football, didn't give us a chance and deserved the victory.

Overall we should be glad that the team didn't lose heavy and congratulate Atletico's approach of the game as they didn't force our total humiliation.

They are playing a mid-week game, to get eliminated form the EL group, that's why they lower the rhythm in the 2nd

even with 5 defenders we have halls in the back but against quality teams they can see how silly we defend sometimes...we shouldn't let them playing so close in our area like this..it could b 6-0 yesterday....SEOANE was rapped yesterday by Aguero & reyes..

I have not seen much of Seoane.. but he is just a starter and it is only normal to see players of Aguero's and Reyes' level giving him a very hard time.. the most important is if he is improving. we cannot expect him to defend and attack like Filipe within 10 games or so..

was not the first goal from Kun's being off-side?

Hari: Seoane should improve a lot. I mean unbelievable lot. But Saul was quite all right, he made runs and centered the ball, it was not just his mistake no-one was there...
