Default World Player of the Year...

Lampard on World Player shortlist

Frank Lampard
Lampard recently broke the record for consecutive Premiership appearance

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been shortlisted for Fifa's World Player of the Year award.

Barcelona duo Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o are the other two players on Fifa's three-man shortlist.

Barcelona and Brazil playmaker Ronaldinho was the 2004 winner of the Fifa World Player of the Year award.

On Monday the 25-year-old Brazilian, who this year also won the inaugural FIFpro award, was named the 2005 European Footballer of the Year.

Lampard, the footballer of the year in England last season, came second to Ronaldinho for the European award.

It is the first time the Chelsea midfielder has been shortlisted for the Fifa award, which will be announced on 19 December.

On Saturday Lampard broke the record for consecutive appearances in the Premiership, making 160 appearances in a row, marking that achievement with a goal in the 2-0 away against Portsmouth.

The midfielder joined Chelsea from West Ham in June 2001 for £11m.

Last year he was key part of Jose Mourinho's side that won the Premiership as well as the Carling Cup.

Ronaldinho will be the clear favourite to scoop the Fifa prize - a Spanish-based player has won the award for the last four years, and it has never been won by a player from the Premiership.

Whereas the European Football of the Year prize is decided by journalists, the Fifa award is determined by coaches and captains of every national team voting for their top player based on a list of candidates drawn up by the world governing body.

Eto'o is miles and miles better than Oliviera & Forlan!!

Drogba is a muppet!! Now that Crespo is establishing himself in the side Chelsea are bound to be even more lethal with the Argies quality finishing. Essien is good but world player of the year - I don't think so.

For me Ronaldinho hasn't been that good (apart from that RM game) this year.

I would have made Riquelme the main man this year................

Come on Croc, you're not as naive as that are you? Riquelme is not high profile enough! I hate FIFA!

Lampard doesn't have half the skills of Ronaldinho.

He may not have the skills of the magical Brazilian but he has been a hell of a lot more consistent than him

The award should go only to:

Thierry Henry

or

Kaka

or

Maldini

Maldini should get a special award, but he is nowhere near as deserving as Lampard who has scored goals, many of them crucial, as well as being superconsistent. What a year he has had.

Ronaldinho may be much more skillful, but this isn't the most skillful player in the year award. Lampard is an enigma to me. He is not that skillful, not the best tackler and hasn't really got a lot of pace. He just plays out of his skin week in and week out.

Ronaldinho and Lampard have different playing styles and are both amazingly talented, but my vote still goes to Dinho, he is too amazing.

Couldn't have put it better myself...
