Default ex-Youth Player topic: Diego Vela (Winger)

Name: Diego Vela Vázquez
Birthdate: 27/Nov/1991
Birthplace: A Coruña
Height: 167 cm
Weight: 64 Kg
Position: Right winger
Transfer: Zero-cost
Career: Deportivo Juvenil A (2008-now), Orillamar (2006-2008), Calasanz (2005-2006)

Interesting player, he was the best assistor of Juvenil A on the past season and now is having a chance at Fabril. I read the other day that he was been one of the best players in this start of season.

he criticizes Depor for not having given enough chances (or at all) to home-grown guys back in the time, when he played for Fabril. he mentions JuanDo as one of the only who made it, but left for Mallorca, while others left for Thailand and Romania.

Many thanks for the updates! All the best for him!

The kid has some talent, from the few times I saw him. A pitty there was no room for him here, as typical. Nobody doubted his quality, but I've read and heard many times that he didn't have the physical to play at the highest level, because of his height, too small, too thin, too weak... which of course it's such a solid argument... (Bebeto, Romario, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Jordi Alba, etc,...)

Quite fair what he says about the lack of oportunities to the youngsters here. I blamed Lendoiro many years for it, and had the hope that Tino would change that, as he promised before the elections. We'll give him some more time, but so far I see no improvement. It can't be that complicated, I thought he would do just like Celta's president, to build short squads to make room for the youngsters, and not signing players for the positions that can be decently covered with youngsters. But no, we still being different, if we have a youngster that could make it to the 1st team, we prefer to sign a few veteran players precisely for that position, or even worst sometimes, to get some inexperienced players on loan from other clubs to give them the chance we don't give to our people, and so leaving our youngsters at Fabril until 22 or 23, when we get rid of them because they're too old and never will be good enough, because didn't make it to the 1st team, which was an easy step, but they weren't able...

Maybe when we become more stable team in Primera, Tino will start doing something about our youths, but until then a lot of talent will be wasted as normal.

I still consider the quality of work done in our youth academy is not the best possible.

I would say, it is not just the management of our kids, when they become seniors, what is problematic. I do think, that in the last 10 years or even 15 years, the coaches in our youth academy did not educate a single guy, who would have been un-doubtfully a primera quality player. I mean when reaching senior age. Even accidentely one should have come out from 300 kids within 15 years. But not.
