Default Galician Clubs

First Racing de Ferrol was relegated to segunda B and now is Compostela who was relegated to the same category.
It seems that Celta and Depor will be the only forces in Galicia for a long time

Well, they have been so for a time now...
Compos had some years of glory, and I think they deserved to remain in first division when they actually got relegated (a couple of unfortunate games they had!). After that it was all going down the hill...
About Ferrol I don't know too much, but it seems as if they lacked experience or something like that... Too bad, because they bet on young talented players and it didn't work all that well...
It's indeed a pity, 'cos only Depor and Celta remain up there.

Oviedo have been relegated for non payments and Atletico Arteixo (from Coruña) has been promoted to 2B

I like Ferrol, my grandfather was from there and was a fan. Its funny, he hated Depor.

Nothing funny in that teams from the province of Coruña, don't seem to like each other.

(Quick geography lesson for non-spaniards.Galicia is the region and has 4 provinces Coruña, Lugo, Orense and Pontevedra)

Depor and Santiago de Compostela aren't the greatest of friends either.Compostela once invited Celta fans to their ground when they were playing Depor.

(Depor, Compostela and Ferrol are all in the province of Coruña.Celta is in the province of Pontevedra)

I thought of giving a little life to this one, since there are some references here and there...

So, what's of Galician interest at Segunda B (1st group)

Racing Ferrol keeps going down and after being defeated yesterday by Alaves (yep, that's the uefa cup finalist Alaves), they are at the bottom of the table above the last place Compostela.
On the other hand, the Coruna based Montaneros (the team of Iago and a few more ex Depor B players) is being doing pretty good, tied in the last place for the promotion play-offs with Lugo.
Pontevedra (Carril's team) is just one point below Montaneros and Lugo and finally Celta B is in the mid-table.

I try to follow the Galician clubs, especially the teams from Santiago de Compostela -- but the information on their websites is lacking to put it best.

Wish these clubs took the internet seriously like most north american sports franchises do -- even the ones in lower divisions have amazing sites in comparison.

It's not only their websites, but the sporting aspect, that is at its lowest end.

Santiago Compostela, at the bottom of the table, will be in Tercera next season, and Ciudad de santiago, already eliminated from Fabril's group!
(after getting an impressive 0-0 with 8 players against Fabril in the 1st game, if i remember well )

Yea it's too bad. I always hoped that they would be able to pull themselves back up to at least Segunda...but they never have the right management group to make it work.

With regard to Montaneros, they do not always play their games in the city of A Coruna. A recent Segunda B game against Bilbao Athletic (1-1) was played at the O Roxo stadium in Cerceda. This weekends match against Mirandes (2-1) was in Laracha.

Both ex-Depor players Iago and Ruben Rivera scored for Montaneros yesterday, at the 2-2 draw against Lemoa.
Montaneros is in the mid-table, with no chance for reaching the playoff games for promotion. The onle galician team with the chance to reach the play off promotions series for Segunda, is Pontevedra.

Sadly, Racing Ferrol keeps going down, and they will be probably at Tercera the next season.

Wow, Pontevedra managed to get to the play-offs, though they almost never got in the first 4 places during the season.
Nice to see a Galician team with a chance to join Celta at Segunda.

Racing Ferrol relegated

My poor Racing is in a tail spin.
Pontevedra in Segunda would be awesome! Forza Garantes!!
