He's actually pretty well-known in Spain...

His "name" is actually the one thing that can't be argued, he was widely accepted as one of the best coaches in Spain for many many years.

We'll see how it goes.

Welcome and good luck

Agree that in Spain he has a good reputation and is more well known than FV. Very successful when I was growing up in the late 90's and early 00's. He seems to have disappeared over the last few years but there's no doubt this guy can coach if he gets back into the swing of things.

My only problem is his track record of staying at a club for less then a year thats something we don't do.

His record up to 2008 is impressive and he kept his clubs in the division with some ease. Those were different times though and football has moved on (or backwards, depending on your viewpoint). If he can replicate his earlier career, then he's the one for us. But, what happened to him after 2008???

A cautious welcome from me - simply because he's not Fernando Vasquez. Let's hope VF is literally a mirror image of FV!

Welcome! I hope he will be succesfull.

I have my doubts - nobody can argue with his previous records, but there are a few concerns.
He is known that his teams lack the physic in the second part of the season, but the only staff that he brings is a physical coach?
He is known to practise offensive football - are we going the Oltra path again? We will have a poor squad compared to Primera teams and trying to dominate, full front attack will not be a good option.
He is known to use older, experienced players and disregard the acedamy players. We don't have the resources to do that, we need to rely on younger players, that the coach will need to develop.

I would say that VF is not the best choice, but I am prepared to give him the benefit of a doubt.

can someone tell me, what the hell he was doing in the last 6 years? maybe played backgammon with FV...
for me the most strange case, that he was just 3rd in Portugal with the previous year CL winner Porto (which lost some key players).

Honestly, it's tough to judge his signing. Before 2008 he was a success and after it he's a failure. I don't know which VF will be sitting on Depor's bench.

When he came to Gent, he said it was for personal reasons...

VF hasn't even started yet, and you've already criticised him more than you did FV

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought they finished 2nd behind Benfica by just 3 points, which is not bad for his debut season in Primeira Liga.

Welcome!!

At least he doesn't look senile, like FV, so that's cool I guess.
