29 Nov 2007 -- It has been confirmed that Albert Lopo won't return into action until January, his injury is a disc herniation, a problem that has been treated with a physical therapy. The Catalan defender expressed on Tuesday his sadness with the situation. New scans were made on Wednesday and it was determined that the problem will continue to be treated in the same way.

The expected return of Albert Lopo will not occur until next year, the Catalan still suffering from hernia problems and the situation hasn't improved. That's why he and doctor Carlos Lariño travelled to Valencia on Wednesday in order to see an specialist: doctor José Ramón Tatay. The conclusion is that the injury must continue to be treated in the same way, in other words using a physical therapy a not a surgical procedure. The doctors don't want to speculate about a probable date for his return, but the media in La Coruña appoints that it won't occur before Christmas.

Lopo talked on Tuesday before to the travel to Valencia and he showed his preoccupation with the case "This is desperate. What kills me is not to know how much time will I spend like this. Everybody is helping me at the club, but it's stressing not to know when I will come back. It isn't the same to be suffering from a normal injury in which you know the time you will spend out."

The Catalan defender also said that he feels that his condition is progressing, but not as fast as he was expecting "I feel I am moving forward, but it's just that it isn't as fast as I want. Maybe I was too anxious and maybe I was too hurry to go out of this. The pains were over and I though I was better, but the true is that I wasn't so fine."

Lopo's problem is known as lumbar herniated disc, an injury that causes pain at the back and in the legs. As a disc degenerates, it can herniate -the inner core extrudes- back into the spinal canal, which is known as a disc herniation -or a herniated disc- The weak spot in a disc is directly under the nerve root, and a herniated disc in this area puts direct pressure on the nerve, which in turn can cause pain to radiate all the way down the patient's leg to the foot.

There are several treatments that can be used in order to correct the problem, but the general recommendation of the doctors is that if the problem continues after six weeks, the most reasonable solution is an operation known as microdiscectomy surgery, this consist in a surgery that uses microsurgical techniques -a small operation using a microscope- But the doctors don't want to use this solution because is too risky for the player, it could solve the problem but at the same time it could end the career of Lopo. That's why the doctors will continue to use the physical therapy, a solution that could be more slow, but that's more secure.

Perfect. We return to some consistency. Right wing remains our difficult spot and it's fair that Lafita was left out during the past weeks, but now get's a second chance. As Riki is always best as a sub, we have that place covered if things don't work out.

Great lineup, hope Riki can find some minutes on the pitch though...

My appologies, Xisco wasn't called because he isn't at 100 after his stomachal problems, Bodipo will play in his place, and there's the rumour that Riki might start on the right, so the squad will be:

M Pablo - Piscu - Colo - Filipe
Sergio - De Guzman
Lafita/Riki - Verdu - Guardado
Bodipo

I`m almost sure that we will win this one. The reason is very simple and obvious: I bought a new socks - bad smell won`t disturb our players anymore (they will not get stomach problems anymore)
