Default Pre-season 2005-2006

I just went through some Spanish forums to know what people thought of the pre season first trainings.

Most people agree that in just two sessions, you can notice a lot of chances from Irureta's time. Back then, the sessions were controlled by just 3 guys: Irureta, Melo and Franganillo. Now, they are five: Capparrós, Luci, Reyes, Franganillo and Tito Ramallo (Fabril's coach). That means it's almost impossible for players to avoid doing some exercises. As soon one of the coaches notices that one of the players is acting lazy, he will be called to put some effort.
However, it seems no player was in a lazy mood. All of them tried their best and it seemed they were enjoying the "physical pain". In fact, some players were disgusted when Caparrós called it a day as they were enjoying every moment of the training. That could be because with Irureta, the first sessions were just physical; with Caparrós, the physical drills are executed thinking about movements on the field, e.g., like if they were already playing a match. In fact, the ball was present in the exercises, something that was very, very rare with Irureta.
Some Spanish forum users, at the same time, said that this positive attitude towards the trainings was due to Caparrós' first statements. While Irureta was always complaining about too many players, no new members, etc.; Caparrós has said that he's happy with the squad as it is right now, that he doesn't need new players and that the best summer signings would be the "recovery" of Valerón, Victor, Tristán... So the players are feeling important and doing what they like (kicking the ball), and they "pay back" with a positive attitude...

Let's hope everything continues like this... With that attitude plus a couple of new players (Guzmán, Baiano) and the input of the youngsters, we can have a competitive team.

That's one thing that's always for sure when you get a new coach: you are motivated to work your ass off to show him you are a good player and deserve to play. Great to hear the players seem to enjoy training football again!! And thanx for the info, great as usual zepp!!

Thanks a lot zepp. I can't believe Jabo hardly used a ball in training! But so far I like what I'm reading.

I didn't say during the training... Just during the first week of the season (last year was an exception it seems)

I would say Caparr?s is very careful in dealing with the press and the squad. He is not going to express his need for more new and fresh players, because the president might have not assured him for anything.

This is good news.

Hope to hear more like it as the pre-season turns into the season.

Well, it seems there was a mistake in my first post. According to different newspapers, Irureta used the ball in the pre season trainings from the very first minute while Caparrós uses it only in the afternoon sessions. I'm sorry for the mistake but I have to rely on what I read in other forums and in the newspapers...

According to the same newspapers, the morning sessions with Caparrós are quite hard. The coaches (all of them) get involved a lot in the training and they just don't limit themselves to give orders and watch. Yesterday, Caparrós, Reyes and Luci were all shouting to the players "come on", "work, work, work", "you can do it...". They also try to make the most out of it: at one moment, Reyes asked Ruben, while the whole team was running around the field, to speed and leave his teammates behind... It was done. The next time, it was Caparrós himself who tried to lead the group and leave it behind. His "demarrage" didn't work and the team could easily follow his footsteps
It seems also that Caparrós has set up several rules. With Irureta, the players could eat what they liked and at the time they liked (they didn't have to wait to all their teammates). Caparrós won't allow that: yesterday he reprimanded a player that started picking in the buffet while the whole group was waiting for late-comers. When they were all seated, Caparrós allowed them to start eating.
Oh, and another difference. Irureta talked to the players using the Spanish informal you (tu) while Caparrós will always use the more formal "usted".
Irureta was a priest, Caparrós is a sargent.

hahah
It seems to be the only way to have authority on the players and push them to give all their best.

And what about the players? Don't you know what they think about Caparros' methods?
