It was CSKA Sofia from Bulgaria who rejected him. This former legend, who seems to have completely lost out, now seems to have asked 2 million Euro before accepting a contract in Russia. A player who hasn't even played at Mallorca this season and has been poor since 2003.

Livorno take on Tristan

After Francesco Tavano, Livorno have chosen Diego Tristan to fill the gap left by Cristiano Lucarelli.

“I can’t wait to get back on form and start afresh,” he is quoted as saying in the Italian media.

The club realises that the £6m sale of their talismanic captain to Shakhtar Donetsk will leave a massive hole in their squad, but President Aldo Spinelli is working to reassure the fans with a number of new signings.

It is reported this morning that 31-year-old Spanish centre-forward Tristan has reached an agreement for a one-year contract with Livorno.

The player is believed to have rejected offers from Liga sides to try his hand in Serie A for a deal worth £470,000 per season.

It is a gamble for the player who was a hero at Deportivo La Coruna for many years, but disappointed in his return to Mallorca last term.

He didn’t score a single goal in 13 appearances and was released in January 2006, but has been working on his fitness levels.

Meanwhile, Tavano has been handed the Number 10 jersey that had been retired with Igor Protti in 2005.

It was a request from Protti himself that allowed the shirt to be put back into the squad. “I don’t want to rob children of the dream of one day wearing this number for Livorno.”

I think he may regret his choice very soon as Livorno may not have a night club suitable for him

I don't see him as being anything other than a flop in Italy. Serie A has gotten a lot faster, and I just don't see him keeping up.

Who knows, there are 38 year olds performing well in Serie A so it might just work out. I still doubt it though.

The age problem with Tristan isn't physical, it's mental...

Tristan is no longer good enough to fill the gap left by Lucarelli, not expecting him to be terrible, just not very effective.

Yeah it was the same here, Luque, Valeron and Tristan were my favourite players at Depor, sadly none are the players they once were, each for different reasons.

Very good move for him! Livorno is really nice club and he will cover the empty space after selling Cristiano Lucarelli (he is so good!). I wish him all the best! Good luck our hero!
