Default Spain | Segunda División | 2013/2014

Well, I think this is the right time to open this topic, since all 22 clubs who will participate in the league are now known. Not counting Zaragoza and Mallorca, there are 9 new clubs compared to our last adventure in Segunda.

The full list:

Deportivo Alavés
AD Alcorcón
Girona FC
Barça B
Córdoba CF
SD Eibar
Sporting Gijón
Hércules CF
Real Jaén
Recreativo Huelva
Deportivo La Coruña
UD Las Palmas
CD Lugo
CD Mirandes
Real Madrid Castilla
Real Mallorca
Real Murcia
CD Numancia
SD Ponferradina
CE Sabadell
CD Tenerife
Real Zaragoza

Geographically speaking, the league has changed a lot since two years ago. In 2011/2012, most of the clubs were located in the east of Spain. Now the eastern regions are much more deserted, and the league has shifted much more to the north of Spain. So there are more shorter trips for the fans compared to last time.

There are several more attractive teams with nice stadiums than last time we were in Segunda, such as Deportivo Alaves, Tenerife, and of course Zaragoza & Mallorca. Yet, at first glance, I don't think there are really many top-teams in this league as there were in the past few years. When we were there, there was Depor, of course, but also Celta and Valladolid. Elche and Hercules were strong teams as well, but later inexplicably collapsed. Almeria was pretty good as well. And last season you had Villarreal, and once again Almeria and Elche.

This season though, I don't see these teams. Depor, Mallorca and Zaragoza are all very big question marks at this point. Tenerife and Alaves are teams with plenty of fans and a good infrastructure, but since they're only coming from Segunda B just now, it's unlikely they'll already be title contenders this season. In general, I think this might finally be the year of Las Palmas. Alcorcon has been up there for the last two seasons as well, but I don't think they'll be able to put in performances like that year in year out. Hercules had a terrible season, but I do think they have to potential to bounce back.

So, that's my opinion. Las Palmas, Hercules, and maybe Depor, Mallorca, Zaragoza and Sporting. To see anyone else at the top, would be a surprise. And if we can keep players like Bruno Gama, Juando, Lux, Alex (who is perfectly fine for Segunda), Laure,... and get ourselves a few promising players, I don't see why we couldn't go for at least a top 6 finish. Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic

As Greg said, no clear favourites. Maybe Girona or Cordoba could have a chance for the best six (beside Barca B and Castilla).

It would be nice if we could avoid soon away matches in enthusiastic places like Tenerife, Alaves, Jaen (15.000 specs yesterday) or Eibar (small, but hellish stadium)...

Let's start from the basics, and have a look at the other end of the table

Mirandes and Sabadell are good candidates for that for me.

Hard to find any info on this, but I'm reading that the draw should be made next Tuesday.

I doubt they're really in trouble. They're always saying stuff like that, like with Levante this season, that they were certain they'd have tangible evidence. Well, I haven't heard squat about the whole thing in the past two months.
