Default General news - season 2015/16

ANALYSIS: RELEGATION BATTLE

24 Mar 2016

Deportivo already have two more points than last season and, statistically, the options to achieve the permanence are high. But the fight to above demotion in la liga will be hard, with up to eight teams separated by ten points.

The victory over Levante UD meant fresh air for a Deportivo that starts to caress the permanence. With 34 points added the Galicians have now two more than last season and are currently tenth, right at the middle of the standings.

The permanence seems near, and the betting companies understands it that way. Currently they are giving between 80% and 94% of chances to see Depor staying at Primera. Normally a team needs 42 points to secure the permanence, which would mean two more victories for Deportivo, but as it happened on last season it could be less taking in mind the current situation.

Because the best news for Deportivo is that there are ten teams above them, inevitable these them will be dropping points taking in mind the direct meetings, like next matchday’s matches with Rayo Vallecano hosting Getafe CF and Valencia CF visiting UD Las Palmas.

The players think this way, as Luis Alberto told to reporters on Wednesday, “I believe we are needing three or four more points, because the salvation will be between 38 and 39 points.”

With eight matchday remaining the battle to avoid demotion is not defined at all, only ten points are separating the last eight places and, actually, Rayo Vallecano and Granada CF are currently out of the drop only by the goal difference rule.

Even last place Levante UD has solid options in the quest for the permanence as they are only four points away from safety and with an upcoming calendar facing four direct rivals: Sporting Gijón, Real Betis, RCD Espanyol and Granada CF.

In terms of calendar, the side in the worse situation is Sporting Gijón. The Asturians are penultimate and within the last eight matchdays they have to face five teams that are fighting for the top positions, including current leaders FC Barcelona. They also have to face both Sevilla CF and Villarreal CF, teams fighting for the last spot in the Champions League, plus games with Europa League aspirants SD Eibar and RC Celta.

Not a bad season with Lugo, but neither impressive.
In some games he played more as a centre midfielder than as a natural winger, that's why he only made 7 shots in the whole season.

22 games, 0 goals and 2 assists.
