This made me laugh to myself.

Congratulations to Stewart Downing, the winner of the Mars competition to go to the Euro's with the England Team.

Seriously, I'd take Chamberlain in front of Downing any day of the week. I just don't get that at all. Downing, a player that most Liverpool fans will tell you has been dissapointing, with his 0 assists and 0 goals this season; somehow makes the England squad.

that also when Adam Johnson was available.. also both Holt and Danny Graham was available and still Welbeck was picked? England dont have a player like Holt, who runs all the time and also currently at the peak of his career..

I saw a programme last night (Panorama), about the Nazi/Racist fans in Poland and Ukraine. I actually found it quite shocking, thousands of fans, many with their faces covered, making Nazi salutes and singing anti Jew songs, and making monkey chants to the black & arab players.
I'm not assuming that both countries are racist, but this programme painted a very disturbing picture of what is allowed and goes unpunished by the Police and the authorities.

Dont believe in it! "Nazi/Racist fans in Poland"? Maybe 0.5 - 1 % - maybe less? I think that is parallel to all the european countries. All stadiums are very safe. I always go to watch the games in polish league with my children and wife. I never saw Nazi salutes by polish fans. Poland was the first country attacked by nazis in the Second World War ( on the 1st of September 1939). Only an idiot may be a nazi in Poland... But probably You dont know our history ( or Ukrainian history - that isnt the same!).
The best solution is to come to Poland and see what people lives here Btw - once I read You can meet polar bears on the street of polish cities

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...diums_of_Hate/

The media will always lap this kind of stuff up and highlight it before a big tournament but come on Adi, "don't believe in it?"

The report isn't saying all Poles and Ukranians are racist/anti-semitic/violent. It doesn't say it's only a problem in those countries and even highlights the case with John Terry as proof that racist related problems still exist all over Europe.

The problem you seem to be overlooking though, is that when you go to a game, I'm guessing it's a home game and you know where you're going and don't really represent much of a threat or confronting nature to the home ultras with your family. Can you honestly say you'd feel the same if you took your family for a walk round the stadium of your biggest rivals?

From my own experience, I would say that I never felt intimidated or threatened in any way when I was in the city of Poznan but once we got to the stadium, the atmosphere was totally different. We were wandering round the ground (which only had 3 sides at that time) looking for our entrance and walked right through the Poznan ultras and think all of us were probably praying that we'd covered up our colours properly.
In the stadium, we were lead to a caged off section but to be honest, the Poznan fans the other side all seemed friendly and there were a few exchanges of scarves that I saw. However, any time you wanted to go to the toilet or get a hotdog etc, you needed an armed escort and you were covered from both sides.
Baring in mind that there were very few of us and we didn't do anything to taunt or provoke the home fans, it was thankfully very peaceful and I have to admit that I never saw any racist or violent behaviour but lets be honest, a few Depor fans don't represent the same challenge as thousands of German/English/Dutch/Russian etc fans.

The impression I get is that Ukraine will be far more dangerous, especially for those that aren't white but there still exists a dangerous element in Poland too imo. To suggest that you shouldn't believe any of it when there is clear evidence is just plain misleading.

have you seen Legia's stadium sized banner against Hapoel TA?

From only one season:
On 31 May 2006 during a Polish Cup-tie against Resovia Rzeszów, “supporters” of Stal exhibited a huge flag with the motto: “H5N1 – not only one Jew will die” and a banner with a Celtic cross – a racist symbol of “white power”.
On 10 September 2006 during a 6th Orange Ekstraklasa match involving Wisla Kraków and Pogon Szczecin, Nazi fans held up a Celtic cross flag and another flag with “Anti-Jude”.
During a UEFA cup tie between FK Austria Vienna and Legia Warszawa on 28 September 2006 in Vienna, Legia fans held a large banner saying "White Legion" featuring the “Wolf ’s Hook” Nazi emblem of the organisation which later became the Hitler Youth.
In Krakow on 2 March 2007 during an Orange Ekstraklasa match between Cracovia Kraków and Legia Warszawa, the Warsaw fans chanted at the hosts: “Jews, Jews, Jews, whole Poland is ashamed of you”.

But: I don't think, the everyday Polish football hooligans are able to pay the tickets of the EC.

Let me have a word about it.

It's not like this report is a 100% lie, but "stadiums of hate"? Come on. If it was a report made by Czech/Croatian/Russian/Greek television it would be more reliable, but English TV? Sorry mates, but you can hear very often about racist gestures during the games in Premier League and lower English leagues. Much more often then in Poland.

There are racists in Poland, guess that most of them are among ultras which are known of not having brain, but we're talking about club ultras fans! At EURO stadiums you won't see them especially since there was a ticket draw and everyone had equal chance of drawing it. What is more for our ultras fans there is a big difference between club games and international games. Maybe there might be some incidents when we face Russia, but for sure nothing at stadium and for sure nothing if you won't be looking for it. I know many Africans studying in Wrocław, what is more it is a very popular city among Spanish erasmus students and I haven't ever heard them complaining about racism here.

Nazis? Yeah, but even less than racists. Blockheads, as everywhere, but for sure they won't appear during international game as other Polish fans would destroy them.

@ DepHun - Cracovia fans call themselves jews, so such a chants have nothing to do with anti-semitism

To Michal: yes, Riazor Blues call themselves as Turcos, after being called for a few decades, as Turcos. Not to mention other European club-examples, here...

Also myself thinks that Polish supporters are not gonna be that dangerous. I would be rather afraid of the riots made by the usual trouble-makers of each big tournament
