Porto striker Luis Fabiano's mom kidnapped

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, March 11 (Reuters) - The mother of Brazilian soccer star Luis Fabiano, a striker for European champions Porto, was kidnapped on Friday in her hometown of Campinas, police said.
It was the third time the mother of a Brazilian soccer player has been kidnapped over the last months.
"We can confirm the kidnapping but we can't give any more details for the moment," said a police spokesman at Campinas' anti-kidnapping unit. Police declined to say if the kidnappers had made a ransom demand.
Last month, the mother of Sao Paulo striker Grafite, whose legal name is Edinaldo Batista Libanio, was held for a day before police rescued her with no ransom paid.
The mother of Santos player Robinho was held 41 days before being released. Robinho, whose legal name is Robson de Souza, did pay ransom in that case but it was not known how much.
Luis Fabiano, whose full name is Luis Fabiano Clemente and is nicknamed "The Fabulous," signed to the Portuguese team in August from Sao Paulo. He sprang to prominence in 2002 when he was joint top scorer in the Brazilian championships with 19 goals in 23 games.
Trained in the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, he is also known for his quick temper and has been disciplined for brawling with opponents.
