Default 23 December 2007: Levante - Deportivo (pre-match comments)

After Wednesday's match at Espanyol (in Barcelona) the team will travel directly to Valencia to prepare the relegation clash with Levante.

Because of Depor's away form, I have high hopes of getting from the Montjuic alive and to take away three points out of Valencia.

No other way - if we won't be able to win against Levante we won't be able to win against any other team. I never use 'must-win match' form, but there is no other way - only 3 points!

We simply must win! Levante is our rival! (oh God how poor sounds that)...
Anyway, WIN nothing else!

Matchday 16 hasn’t done us well which makes the Levante match one the most crucial one since the AC Milan match in 2004, I think.

Levante, nr.20 in Spain, lost. But Betis and Murcia (close to Deportivo) won their matches while Valladolid and Athletic obtained a valuable point. The only thing which could help us a little now are losses of Recre (at home against Atleti) and Osasuna (away at Real Madrid). Which might be positive is that both Getafe and Almeria have lost.

My fear remains that the gap with a safe spot becomes bigger than 3 points. It is 3 points now and that should be the absolute maximum. Look at the standings before the Recre and Osasuna match:

10 Zaragoza 20
11 Almería 19
12 Athletic 18
13 Getafe 18
14 Murcia 18
15 Recreativo* 18
16 Osasuna* 17
17 Valladolid 17
-------------------
18 Betis 17
19 Deportivo 14
20 Levante 7

The advantage of having ten(!) clubs involved in the relegation battle is that getting out of the danger zone remains possible. That is, four points out of two (Zaragoza, Levante) can help a lot. But the disadvantage is that, with every team getting points on a regular basis, is that a gap of more than 3 points becomes difficult to overcome. So, losing at Levante will widen the gap to 4 or 5 points and then hell breaks loose.

If we don't get 3 points here, Lotina has prooved the world he hasn't been able to do what it takes. We can't keep asking for time.

True. Last chance for Lotina.

I wouldn't be surprised if we win after a horrible game and he gets to stay, only to start losing more points after the winter break

Ruben & Xisco up front...

The rest of the team should remain the same........ hopefully M.Pablo will be ok.

Verdu, Sergio, Riki to the bench....

I also think Lotina should give P.Alvarez at least 25 mins to show if he can bring something extra to the team...

Come on Depor... we need to get out of the bottom 3 as soon as possible.

That means poor, slow Sergio is gonna play, Chapi is suspended I guess, and Lotina is off course too stupid to play with players like Adrian and Ruben.

But well, it doesn't matter, cause it's my birthday, and that means that either Lotina is gonna get sacked, or we're gonna smash them. Vamos Depor!

Chapi will only be suspended against Espanyol in the Copa I think. Well, depends on how many matches he's suspended.
