Default 6 January 2008: Deportivo - Atlético (pre-match comments) (Liga)

Our second consecutive match at home in the New Year, and probably more important than the Copa encounter with Espanyol.

Atlético had Pernia and Aguero sent off against Espanyol and I assume they'll mis their Copa match. But: Pernia received a double yellow against Atleti and already had 9(!) yellow cards before this match started. Ten means a 1-match ban. So he could skip that if he's just suspended for 1 match because of his sending-off. I assume he will get a 2-match ban and will miss Depor.

Something comparable for Aguero (7 Liga goals so far). He already was sent off before this season (against Getafe 2 weeks ago) and I can't imagine the Spanish FA will give just another 1-match ban for doing the same within 2 weeks.

Finally, Maniche won't play anymore for Atleti as he'll be sold. He is their player with most Liga minutes. Aguero is third and Pernia is sixth.

All in all they could miss some important players.

Aguero was sent off for violent conduct which carries a 3 match ban. He won't play for sure. If I read correctly, a sending off for 2 yellows means you miss the next game in whatever competition you were sent off in (in this case, la liga) Pernia may also get another games ban but he will be missing our game for sure.

Great, that's 3 of their first 6 missing. And Atleti have a poor period after their fine results.

They lost against Espanyol this Sunday as the Catalans were already superior with 11-vs-11. Last week it was a 0-0 draw at Recre which was the maximum. And the week before that it was that astonishing kick&fight match against Getafe (1-0 win; straight red to Reyes, 2x yellow to Aguero and yellow to Maniche, Raúl García, Perea and Maxi).

I don't understand...he played the most liga minutes and will be sold? Why?

I'm happy for that Aguero and Pernia won't play - it's gonna be really important for us. As for me I would take 1 point from that game with closed eyes. Same in next match against Villarreal. If we would get 2 points in next two matches it would be great. Then we play against teams like Almeria, Valladolid, Betis, Getafe and Recreativo and I think that matches will be the most important this season. We must get there a lot of points if we want to think about staying there.

I'm not so sure about a ban for Pernia. I saw Atletico's game, and he really didn't deserve that card. There seem to be a lot of cases in Spain in which a ban is cancelled too, so maybe Pernia will still be present in Riazor.

It seems that Maniche has faked an injury, or something like that, and is on his way out. He didn't play against Espanyol, for example. He'll be gone.

Yes, true... He faked an injury before the match in the Copa. After Agguire found that out he told him that he can search for a new club....

Cant say I really fancy our chances, Athletico have spent a lot and have a strong team.
It all depends on whether we can rise to the ocassion and for everyone to give 100%.
Can you imagine if we beat Espanyol then Athletico at home... that could change our season.... fingers crossed!

29-30ish I think.
But he is most likely too expensive, also when taking in mind the salary he would probably want.

Guys look carefully to this picture. The player with white and blue T- shirt started first, He hit Arguro's organ, so that's why I think Arguro reacted like that by giving Espanyol's player a fist on his face.
