Default 13 January 2008: Villarreal - Deportivo (pre-match comments) (Liga)

Next week we'll play at Villarreal, a team currently occupying a Champions League Cup spot. But combining the good results of Deportivo away this season, recently at Villarreal and the current form of the yellow team, I think it's even possible to win there.

After their 3-0 defeat at Espanyol, their goal statistics are 30 scored and 27(!) leaked. They're a team being 'all or nothing' this season with just two draws.

This team can win 3-4 at Atlético, beat FC Barcelona (3-1), conquer the Mestalla of Valencia (0-3) or win 1-3 at Getafe. They have been high in the Liga all of the season so far and very much alive in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Cup.

But at the same time there’s this irregularity: six(!) losses in the Liga already including a 0-5 slaughtery by Real Madrid, 3-2 at relegation candidates Osasuna, 4-1 crash at troubled Zaragoza, 2-0 at Valladolid, even 0-1 at home against Betis Sevilla and yesterday 3-0 at Espanyol.

Their incosistency applies home and away, and especially recently. This week they achieved a narrow Copa win against Las Palmas (2-1) but they already finished the job in November (2-4). In December they won their UEFA Cup matches against little Elfsborg (2-0) and at AEK Athens (1-2).

But against stronger (Spanish) teams, they are having troubles since the end of November. They haven’t won at home for three matches now and have scored just 2 goals: 1-1 against Almería, 0-1 against Betis and 1-1 against Recreativo. All of them are rivals of Deportivo. Away from home, there were the already mentioned losses at Espanyol (3-0) and Valladolid (2-0). Their only win in the past 6 matches also has been mentioned already: 1-3 at Getafe.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that Villarreal will have players suspended on Sunday. Their striking problems (Nihat, Tomasson and Guille Franco were all out injured which only left Rossi) also might have vanished by then.

I don't know what we could expect for this, but judging for the overall performance of the team so far, plus the signifigance of the game, i will no surprised to watch Depor make a superb game having sth like 20 shots on target...

Now is the time, where we will see the real reason for why we did let Capdevila go for free...

I think we'll lose.. We just managed to beat poor Levante, so a 1 goal loss against out-of-form Villarreal is probably the most realistic result.

Because the games of teams that don't attract the attention at played at that hour, Saturdays and late on Sunday (19h00 and 21h00) are reserved to important games (as the Espanyol-Villarreal of yesterday) or to teams with a big group of fans like Barca or Real Madrid.

I know that Carlos, but this season we even against Real Madrid played on Sunday 17...isn't it time to play just one game at different hour?...ehh

Barcelona was the late game and we played a few Wednesday games too

Unfortunately though, we're just not exciting enough for TV, so we get bundled into the riffraff time each week

If we can nick a point at El Madrigal I will be happy, 3 points would even be better. Every game is important, but I feel the following 4 matches are crucial, as they are against teams around us. We urgently need to drag these teams closer to us.

Almeria (a)

Valladolid (h)

Betis (a)

Getafe (h)

Forza Depor!!

yes, I would rest half the usual starters in the 19th round for those more important matches. we will lose by any way in Villarreal, but some Fabril players could pick up some minutes. and the normal starters could train for this 4 FINALS (matches like a final).
