Default Uefa Cup | CSKA Moscow 3v0 Deportivo | Post Match Comments | 23-10-2008

Deportivo's start to the group stage didn't go too well in Moscow but to be honest, the first half performance was plenty better than many games we've played over the last year.
CSKA took the lead from a brilliant free kick from the 18 yr old Dzagoev in only the 9th minute. Just 3 minutes later, the youngster was on the end of a pull back from Wagner Love, to make it 2-0 after some shoddy defending. Depor seemed to wake up after that and had some good posession, even putting together some good moves in the first half but there was no end product as the link between the midfield and the isolated Omar Bravo seemed too far to bridge. The crossing and corners were extremely poor but Guardado, Valeron and Cristian all had some nice moments during that first 45.
Unfortunately, the second half was poor and even though Wagner Love added another goal for CSKA on the hour, it had already looked like Depor had given up the battle. Sergio came on and hit the post in what was probably Depor's best effort but the second half performance in particular looked very disjointed and unorganised.

The only good thing to take from this performance was that this was by far our hardest game, so we still have qualification in our hands. Having said that, there was a big gulf between the 2 teams in quality today and whilst CSKA could be seen as potential winners, it's hard to imagine Depor lifting the trophy next May, if they continue to play like tonight.

No comments, those idiots shouldn't wear shirt with Depor badge! Go and learn how to play football first!

I hope Feyenoord will beat Nancy today...

Adding to Rk's post I just want to mention Aranzubia's good performance.

I knew something like this would happen. The saddest thing is that Lotina keeps doing the same silly things, over and over again! He always makes experiments in both wings and at both defensive sides and everything is always wrong. We are terrible playing outside home

I am starting to feel the Polish team will crush us in the next visit

Defense was embarrassing. No doubt.

But there are positives in our attack. Until the 3rd goal came, we were good, with Cristian being a very positive surprise. With just a bit more sharpness and luck, we could easily beat Gijon with that kind of game.

Defense needs to be changed, though. 5 defenders should be strongly considered in away games. Gives more stability. Playing with Valeron would be good in games where we have to win, though.

Anyway, a game to be forgotten. Hopefully the players will come back and knock down Gijon on Sunday.

THIS!! THIS!! THIS!!

Or just sack Lotina, and buy Dzagoev >___>

Man of the match was Aranzubia, even though we lost and we conceded 3 but he really saved us from a huge score

I think Alan Dzagoev is already out of our reach

Anyway it is a match to be forgotten and let's hope we find the goals in next match

It sounds even worse that your post about not conceding more goals during the game. You are really bringing me down today DK

I think this game was quite similar to the one at Mestalla. At that time was Villa, Mata, now Vagner Love and Dzagoev.
Against such fast and of great quality, offensive players we have no idea what to do.

The pathetic game at Brann was a big surprise, but that wasn't. We played away against an obviously better side, we should have played in our 150% to take a result, instead of this we were bad.

Ah. And I who thought I was a guy who spreads so much joy.

Anyway, I really think we could. Of course it's not material to win the UEFA Cup, but I still don't think it was that bad in the attack. Defense let us down today. Except for Aranzubia.

If Depor will play like usually It may be truth. But I want be crying. Id like to see Lech & Depor in the next round but Is it possible?
So today's game... It wasn't good. I think we had only two shots on a goal ( am I right?) So many mistakes like in youth division and slowly like in women futbol Aranzubia - 29 years old, Manuel Pablo 32, Lopo 28, De Guzman 27, Sergio 32, Valeron 33, Bravo 28, Mista 30. I think they can't improve their style & skills

hey,guys..just relax..!It's isn't the end of the world!Ok,we lost by the group's favorites, but we still have many chanches to pass in the next round.I am disappointed too, because of our bad performence, but being pesimistic don't help us at all.About this match, the only truth is:CSKA isn't a easy rival,is a very good team with many skilful players, and depor isn't the same team that all europe saw in the 90's.Lets hope that even with this team its possible to win rivals like Lech or Nancy and pass to next round...

23/Oct/2008: 20h55 - UEFA Cup: Lotina after the game: "We won't give excuses about the artificial surface, but yesterday we trained in a dry pitch, and today they were watering the grass five minutes before the start. So, we were surprised each time the ball was hitting the ground. It was a lack of tact with us."

LOL! Can't he just say that we should forget this game and look forward to Sunday? This is kind of ridiculous.
