Default La Liga | Valladolid v Deportivo | 14.12.2008 | 17:00 | Pre-match comments

One of the toughest encounters of the season next weekend.
Valladolid are frightening at home, having collected 16 pts. out of 21 possible (5-1-1), just like us.
There, they have really beaten good teams, with Sevilla and Real Madrid one of the latest. Especially the Sevilla game was impressive, and before their game at Bernabeu yesterday, they had only allowed four goals away in five matches - three of them at Jose Zorilla.

Things doesn't get better, when taking in mind how good Valladolid have been lately. Amazing comeback against Osasuna yesterday (0-3 to 3-3 in 25 minutes), and the destroying of Mallorca and Villarreal before that.

They've got Goitom up and running now, and along with their good midfielders in Canobbio, Sesma and the like, we've got a tough game on our hands.

Where we can be happy and hopeful, is because of our great run lately and no European games in the midweek.
If we get Guardado and Lafita in a high gear, we can hit them on the counters, and maybe get a game like against Betis.

All in all though, it seems like a tough task. Draw would be absolutely fine. Especially taking in mind we have a more important game next Thursday.

I can't deliver the statistics like caabrego, but we played Valladolid in the Copa in 06/07 at their stadium, getting a 1-1 with a goal from Filipe, and a 2-2 last year as a part of that horrible start of the league.

Of course a last mention that deserved to be posted, is the fact that we can surpass Real Madrid in the league with a victory, and if they lose/draw at Camp Nou.
It's gonna be very tough to do that however.

If my source isn't wrong then these are our previous matches at Jose Zorilla stadium:

02/09-07 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 2:2
28/02-07 Copa del Rey Valladolid vs. La Coruna 1:1
03/12-03 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 1:1
15/02-03 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 0:1
13/01-02 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 3:0
07/01-01 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 3:1
30/01-00 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 4:1
29/11-98 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 0:1
14/02-98 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 1:0
12/01-97 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 1:1
07/04-96 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 2:2
30/04-95 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 0:0
07/11-93 Primera Divizija Valladolid vs. La Coruna 0:0

4 wins for Valladolid, 7 draws, and 2 wins for Depor.

Doesn't look good. I also think draw would be nice result, but having in my mind our current form I hope we can snap three points somehow.

FORZA DEPOR!

Let's continue the streak. Looking at Valladolid's recent form, it won't be easy..but I thought the same of Malaga. If Guardado, Lafita, and Verdu are on the top of their game we have a real change of taking another 3 points. But our defence needs to stay solid as well with Goitom and Cannobio up top. Should be interesting..

A draw would be good here, concidering Valladolids recent form. Depor has been good lately too though, so it should be an even game. Let's hope every player stays on top of their games to make it a win, very important to win against the teams around us in the table!!

The scores of Philip are correct, but I think the dates are a little odd. Anyhow the liga matches at Valladolid:

1948-1949 ==> VALLADOLID 1 - DEPOR 0
1949-1950 ==> VALLADOLID 1 - DEPOR 1
1950-1951 ==> VALLADOLID 2 - DEPOR 0
1951-1952 ==> VALLADOLID 5 - DEPOR 0
1952-1953 ==> VALLADOLID 4 - DEPOR 0
1953-1954 ==> VALLADOLID 2 - DEPOR 1
1954-1955 ==> VALLADOLID 1 - DEPOR 1
1955-1956 ==> VALLADOLID 4 - DEPOR 1
1956-1957 ==> VALLADOLID 3 - DEPOR 2
1962-1963 ==> VALLADOLID 3 - DEPOR 1
1991-1992 ==> VALLADOLID 2 - DEPOR 0
1993-1994 ==> VALLADOLID 0 - DEPOR 0
1994-1995 ==> VALLADOLID 0 - DEPOR 0
1995-1996 ==> VALLADOLID 2 - DEPOR 2
1996-1997 ==> VALLADOLID 1 - DEPOR 1
1997-1998 ==> VALLADOLID 1 - DEPOR 0
1998-1999 ==> VALLADOLID 0 - DEPOR 1
1999-2000 ==> VALLADOLID 4 - DEPOR 1
2000-2001 ==> VALLADOLID 3 - DEPOR 1
2001-2002 ==> VALLADOLID 3 - DEPOR 0
2002-2003 ==> VALLADOLID 0 - DEPOR 1
2003-2004 ==> VALLADOLID 1 - DEPOR 1
2007-2008 ==> VALLADOLID 2 - DEPOR 2

We had good results there recenty.
A thing to have in mind is that Sergio Asenjo is injured (operated on the apst week) and that Justo Villar is doubtful, so it is probable they will play with their third keeper.

If they are playing with third keeper we just need to bombard from everywhere so that we can make use of this opportunity.!!

3rd choice maybe, but no complete amateur. Bombarding won't help (especially if we have De Guzman on the pitch), but maybe the bet is to try to make many crosses.
Speaking of which, it'll be interesting to see whether Mista will get the chance again.

Well, back up keepers who normally wait for getting the chance for ages usually put their all 100% in order to prove themselves, so I don't really think this is good news for us. Remember Munua's case, how he won the challenge with Auoate and Molina previously, by playing good in a single game in which he participated due to our 1st choice's injuries.

Draw would be fine for me, but we should't be scared of their recent performances. I hope Omar is really motivated after scoring for the first time in La-liga and will manage to shine if gets a chance.

I think it's another game where we can easily win, but anything can happen. Fortunately Depor is becoming more and more self-confident team and our players know their aims. Now it's a real chance to get into top 6 after this matchday and we should take it. I won't complain with a draw, but 3 points are reachable. And we should head for it!

Vamos Depor!

Munua getting in the squad also had to do with Aouate being pretty poor overall last season. And that can't be compared at all, Munua already had Primera-experience.

Actually, I disagree with your statement. When a field player makes his debut, he'll try his best and chances are he has a good game because of the enthousiasm. And when he makes a mistake (which will happen at least a couple of times without a doubt), he still has 10 teammates to fall back on so it isn't a drama. If a keeper makes a mistake though, there's a big chance it ends up in goal. You can't compare the debut of a keeper with the debut of a field player. 3 out of 4 keeper debuts end up with a little disaster that ends up in goal. For a keeper, it's a lot more stressful.

Bombarding won't help though, on the contrary. Chances aren't big you score from a distance, and a few early easy balls cán give that keeper a lot of confidence. An early goal however, even if the keeper couldn't do a thing about it, will make him a lot more nervous than he already is. If he makes a weird save early in the game, it's even worse, that'll undermine his confidence for the rest of the game.

Contrary to what u think deporlover. I will be sad if we lose this one cause right now there's a gap of 4 points ahead of them and we wanna increase that gap not lessen it. I wouldn't be sad if we draw it but yet sad if we lose it though I prefer to win it to put pressure on the clubs ahead of us like Sevilla- atletico-real madrid.

A draw here is good enough for me, a win, spectacular! We can beat them if we continue playing like we have lately.
