Last season we recovered a 0-3 home defeat against Sporting, with an emphatic 0-3 at Betis.

This season, we recovered a 2-3 defeat against Espanyol, with a 0-3 at Xerez
Expecting a few pics, from the noisy Deportivo fans that were there

I had the privilege to watch the match in the Chapin stadium in Jerez de la Fontera.

First of all, the support of the home crowd was fantastic in this municipal stadium. They stole my heart and I wish them all the best this season, which will become incredibly difficult. They have the worst squad in Primera and haven't scored a goal now in 4 matches.

The few dozen Deportivo supporters released a great banner wishing Xerex well in Primera, which was very much appreciated by the home crowd who started to chant 'Depor, Depor'.

The match itself was pretty bad, but I can't let go the impression that the pitch was just horrible to display good football.

I found Depor to be somewhat lacklustre. I always had the idea that if they would start to give 100%, it would be an easy match. But in 60 mins, the team played without much tension. On the other hand, winning 0-3 with such an attitude is the sign of a big team. Combined with the impression that we could have done a lot better, that's positive. Still, Xerez is no much more than a quality Segunda team.

Our defence stood well. All of them played reasonably well, with Filipe being our best man on the pitch. Another one claiming headines was Juca, who was important at the back and upfront. Sergio played reasonably well too. I was disappointed with Alvarez and Guardado, and even more with Lassad and Adrian. Especially the last two mentioned seemed to be playing without motivation.

This match could have easily ended 0-6 although Depor didn't play well. It says a lot about the opponent, but also about this Deportivo. We have a lot of players who can decide matches, and our defence is among the six best in Spain. Combine this with another Liga season in which every team wins one week and and loses the other (except Barcelona, Madrid and Sevilla), I see us finishing among the first 8 with ease.

Ah, and I wondered how something like 20 people had the voice capacity to be louder than several thousands.

Great report, Leon.

Like Leon I to was at the match, personally I had different views on the game. However that is football.

The Xerez fans were fantastic. Even though they wanted the win, for now it seams all they want is a goal.

The Riazor Blues were the ones in the away section and it was them that placed the banner, first to one side and then the other so the whole stadium could see it. Each time they received claps from the crowd and the picture even appeared in AS newspaper the following day. It was writen in Gallego.

Here is a selection of some of the 150+ pictures I took at the match.
