I'm a little surprised that we got 3 points out of that.

Ouch, fantastic goal by Juca!
http://www.megavideo.com/?v=FGKRLAWH

Hopefully he will recover as soon as possible, but I'm afraid he won't. It seemed to be serious.
Adrian and Lassad disappointed me bit, but it seems like our defense is rock solid again. Colotto improved a lot from the last season, at least that is what I noticed in this match.

Two wins in row! Two clean sheets in row!

great win!
Zubi was excellent in goal and i gotta give major credit to colotto and lopo as well.

aranzubia > Guardado > Felipe top players in this game

I gotta say i can never tell if tomas i playing well. He looks so average. perfect/typical hair, no armbands, black boots....he's invisible on the pitch!!!! >_<

Out of the 3 forwards on show today, I'll take Riki.
Lassad and Adrian looked slow, uninterested and just dam bad!! I hope it was a 1 off!!

Our defence and midfield worked their nuts off and every time they passed it up front it would come straight back.

If we had 1 trully good forward (maakay,Bebeto,Tristan in their prime or even Pandiani or Pauleta) we might do well this season.

I hope I'm totally wrong and our forwards will come good now?????

I'm only curious as to how bad Juca's injury is. I wait to hear the news tomorrow.

Jesus God!

Such a terrible second half (even though we had at least three chances which should have been clear goals), it's a miracle that we have 9 out of 15 points after these performances.
Alarming is that we still haven't got a functioning central midfield, that the positioning in the back looks anything but solid, and that Manuel Pablo looks increasingly lost.

The whole defence sector where awsome today but big up to colotta the best game I have seen him play so far. But the pivot midfield was not good today no pressure

Well, you can look at this with the glass half full and the glass half empty.

The glass half full version is that with a little better finishing, it could have been 3-0, 4-0, 4-1, etc. It wasn't like we had no chances all game. In fact, we ended up with the same amount of shots on goal as Villa (7). They were also way better chances. If Riki had chipped or Lassad had gotten his foot behind the ball, it would have been a done deal.
The half empty version is that we're still without a bonafide striker. Those shots were absolutely anemic, and everyone on the front line needs to get way better, and fast.

The glass half full, the defensive side of the team is absolutely rock solid. Other than the chance in the tenth minute, pretty much all of their chances were shots from 20 yards or more. Lopo and Colo dominated in the air. Everyone was scrambling around and cutting off lanes in front of the box.
In terms of MP, he's going struggle against any quality forward at this point. He has been for a couple years, but there's usually someone else who's helping him out.
The half empty is that we couldn't get out of our own box for most of the second half. Until Sergio took a shot near the end, I forgot he was even out there. Everyone looked panicked when we got the ball back, and it was just a mad rush up the field which ended up with a loss of possession. Important to note that Villarreal is looking like a shadow of their former selves as well.

And let's hope Juca's okay. He's got us six points all by himself.
I think Tomas is a good DM who sits in front of the back four, but not much more at this point.

How does the old cliché go...?
A sign of a good team is when they win and aren't playing well

I think he and Sergio made a nice combination today.

About Manuel Pablo, he really impressed me in the last 15 minutes of the game. He was kinda slow, but somehow his legs were always taking balls away from Villareal attackers's legs- He stoped their attacks quite some times at the end, that was one of the main reasons the ending wasn't as intense as it usually is when we are leading for a one goal difference at the end of most matches.

One of my rules about defensive midfielders is that if you don't notice them, they are probably having a good game. Still, I think we were under tremendous pressure and they weren't really able to get the game under control in the second half.
I agree about Manuel Pablo. Rossi was eating him up for most of the second half, but the last ten minutes, he was golden.
