Default Copa | Valencia v Deportivo | 06-01-2010 | Pre Match Comments

So, we got Valencia!

First game at Mestalla, and second game at Riazor one week later. If we pass this, we'll face either Sevilla or Barcelona.

After the Murcia games, the players and the coach declared that they didn't like these kind of games, because it's hard for the team to get motivated.
Lotina told after the qualification over Murcia:
"I don’t want again this kind of games, at least I want to have tension, both in the public and in us."

So, that's the chance! Two finals to get in the semi-finals

Well, it's a good test for us and would be comparable to us playing in the Eurpoa League or Champions League at that time of year. So, from my point of view it's welcome as a yardstick to see how we cope with big games in mid-season.

QF draw is a stinker though!

it the perfect thing to start outside your field

Interesting draw. If we beat Valencia, we'd get inferior teams on paper until the final... And I'd rather get a big team in the phase of the Copa where most clubs don't give a rats ass, instead of in the semi's. That said, I think Valencia will be pretty motivated for this game.

Edit: Crappaloola, again I read an unreliable source Sevilla or Barca in the quarters... Yeah we're screwed

Barca/Sevilla next round. Which is inferior on paper?

I think ultimately, getting a team like Valencia early is a good thing:

-We play a team that will force us to maintain a high competitive level.
-Good test to see where we stand against one of the top 4 teams.
-If we're ultimately getting knocked out of the competition, better sooner than later.
-We get to see what many call our "second derby"

Really tough draw for us but I guess if you're going to win it, you have to beat everyone that stands in your way. It's a pity that they won't be losing anyone to the African Nations and I think Silva could even be fit by the time the 1st leg comes around.

I think they have 6 games to play before the 1st leg but the most interesting one could be on December 20th when they come to the Riazor for a league game.

in fact we are unlucky, but i think we should meet them soon or late and if we want to win the title we must beat a strong team neither now or in final
good luck to depor

Rather interesting that we meet Valencia three times in a month, just like Barca do with Sevilla. Teams will certainly get to know each other.

Anyway, awful draw IMO. Yes, I'd like to get Alcorcon now, only then do we get a shot at the trophy - like Villarreal certainly will now. But well, I can see the 'rather sooner than later'-argument as well, especially with our magnificent run in the league at the moment. However, Valencia are beatable - Sevilla or Barca just aren't.

Feels like we've faced Valencia at some stage of the copa many years in a row now! Can someone recall the facts, which years did we face valencia of the last few (since 05-06)?

I think you're mistaken Valencia for Sevilla, cause we haven't faced Valencia in years. Last time I remember is four years ago when the return leg had to be stopped after a Valencia fan threw something on the pitch that hit the linesman. We ended up beating Valencia 2-1 on aggregate.

Sevilla is the team we've played twice in three years, and twice they humiliated us. If we were to play them this season as well, it will be the third time in four years.

Oh, and I'm actually glad we avoided Villarreal and Atletico, who will want to save their campaign by doing something important in the Copa.
