Fergie thrives on a challenge. We'll definitely be back

Nice reaction from a true fan. Fair play Chris.

I think we are gonna watch a nice dynasty of City in the coming years. You can never race with money... Players like Evans, Jones cannot compete with Tevez, Agüero, Silva, Yaya, etc... We have seen the 2 decades of Pool (those who are old enough) in the seventies-eighties, we have seen the 2 decades of MUFC from 1990 until nowadays, and now new emperor enters. Don't be sad Chris, my team has not won anything in the last 28 years, that is a lifestyle

Nice debate on the previous pages, I am more or less with Hari, as I can still remember on news, that Roy Keane has been the first guy who earns 70,000 per a week (the nr is not correct), and Rooney is the first over 100,000 etc. Chris forgets to add, that 1/3 of the selling incomes by MUFC were from the selling of the one and only CR. So Fergie and MUFC are beaten by their own swords and guns...

2003-2012 - City and Chelsea. We aren't the unprecedented spenders that people want to portray us as being, sorry. You simply don't dictate the market when billionaires enter the game.

How about a fun fact in addition to that - when we started winning all of the trophies and y'know, becoming the big bullies that everybody would come to resent, Man City's net spend was actually greater than ours between 1992-1998 and even when we gave Keane a wage rise in 2000. Yep, City's net spend has been greater than ours for 12 of the last 20 years. City, eh. They sure do ruin it for the rest of us.

What about Ronaldo? I can't forget to add something that wasn't even raised as a topic in the first place. Clarity, please!

incredible Joey Barton!! unbelievable!! i hope he will never play football again.. seriously, QPR should terminate his contract immediately and no other club in England should give him a contract.. and after kicking Aguero, he explains that he wanted to take one player from City with him (red carded).. incredible person, sets a great example for the future footballers..

To Chris: winning has not been your style between 1911 and 1948. This could be repeated in this century.

Record transfer-fee for Roy Keane in 1993. Record transfer-fee for Andy Cole in 1994. Record transfer-fee for RvN in 2001. Most expensive ever back then goalie = Barthez, the joke-target of Tristan. Record transfer-fee for Rio in 2002. Which club made all those records?

I meant, that you really did sold players for 300M GBP, but from that, 80M GPB was selling CR, alone. If RMCF did not pay that extra-ordinay sum, plus neither City another crazy money for Tevez, than your selling would be 130M GBP less. So the only responsible, that you consider MUFC, as a cleverly selling club, are the 2 giants with the more money, making idiot signings from you, and for what you and Fergie critisize them.

I can understand your point of view, that from the "infected" clubs you are among the less "infected" by money.

But from the point of view from here, you are just another money-bag club, that comes to Hun for maximum a draw against any kind of poor Hun teams and at whom a regular sub player earns as much money as my (Montpellier beater) whole team's yearly budget.

Here is a 28 years old video, when money was not that much involved in football and when MUFC and ETO were equal, and you could have been happy for a draw

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

I'm not seeing anything new about the transfer subject. Cherry picking particular transfer fees and salaries, as has been done already, isn't really a compelling argument that what we're seeing today is tantamount to what United supposedly did in the past, certainly not when City's net spend was worse than ours in those record years. Additionally, seeing as the comparisons were about City to begin with, the plight of the rest isn't really pertinent to the debate.

On Ronaldo - which club wouldn't accept £80 million for a player? Sure, it's what we've done to other clubs, but this is a debate in clear context. We're not talking about the exploitation through superior finances that happens at every level. We're considering whether or not United are quite the villains who dictated the market in yesteryear like City are today, and the answer is still no.

For a decade United broke 5 times the buying records, once for a special positioned player, and in other 4 times it was a record ever. I can accept, that you say it is not dictating the market. What I can't agree, that it was not MUFC who started this (making record signings). It was MUFC, as Hari said.

We followed a trend that had already been instigated in Europe, ergo they weren't "records ever". They were British records, all of which were broken by other clubs during that decade, and Newcastle even topped the world record fee. We simply responded to that.

Besides, whatever the truth, it's not even close to making an adequate comparison between City and United. Maybe somebody could still do that.

for sure, not Sir Alex. (we have a rich history, better than anyone, and it will take them [City] a century to get to our level of history.)

1962: The first transfer over £100,000 takes place as Manchester United pay £110,000 to sign Denis Law from Torino.

2000: Roy Keane becomes the first player to top £50,000 a week with a new contract at Manchester United worth £52,000 weekly.

When nine of our players died four years earlier in an air disaster, I'll give us some leeway in whatever we were doing after that to get back to the prosperous days of the pre-Munich Busby Babes.
