Default Jornada 2 | Deportivo 1v0 Recreativo | 27-08-2011 | Post Match Comments

I was really pleased with our game in the first half and full of confidence. We should have been 2 or 3 up by halftime imo but there were a few worrying signs in the 2nd half as we started fairly slowly and finished the game hanging on a bit against what was to me, a very poor Recre.

Still; we took the 3 points and thats the main thing plus it was the first game of the season but I hope to see much more of the 1st half performance and much less of the 2nd half performance.

Dani saved our ass on a few occasions and we relied on another Colotto header to get us on the scoresheet. Would have liked to see Riki and Alvarez in particular show a bit more confidence in taking the shot on.

Damn, I thought the game was just starting, instead. It's all over!
Ah well, just happy to see The team start off the season with a win.

Glad we got the 3 points, that's the main thing. The better performances will come soon, I'm sure.

and may I remind Peña Members to get down to the Player Ratings thread now.

I missed the game but by all accounts we played well the first half and bad the second. Truth is we still need that centre forward capable of scoring 15 goals this season and we wont have him.
But anyway its always a good sign if you can win playing badly. Thats important.

As it's been said, good first half followed by a very weak second one. The thing is that we faced a Recre team nowhere near what they have previously been, so there can't be any doubting that this needs improvement in the next few games.

However, three points indeed is what matters - and in that regard we're already improving upon last year.

I don't remmember the last time we generated so many chances against a team who actually wanted to win us (remmember, valencia didn't). Even though Depor certanly didn't played a brilliant game, its clear things have changed for the best.

I thought Salomao did well and offered us a little extra punch when he came on. Ayoze needs to support Guardado in the attacks more. Colotto, Dani and Valeron showed their experience and class at this level. But in general, Oltra can take positives from the game and he can certainly work on some things such as ball retention and movement of he players. Too often in the second half, passes failed to "stick" at players' feet, but I guess that will come with more games. We're going to have to lay down a marker against some team in the next couple of games. And by that I mean a full 90 minute performance and a victory by two or three goals. If we play like Jekyll and Hyde too often, teams will shed the fear factor we probably hold over them now. Good 3 points, but we need more velocity and confidence in our general play.

When we have Bruno Gama Back our attack will improve... Recreativo is a very week team & if we play like this we'll suffer alot, we could kill the game in the first 20 mins.

i would like 2 see us playing with 2 forwards vs teams like this especially Home

As it was just the first game of the season I won't rate our game - just agree with all above. But as said before - it's just the first game and as we all know the beginning doesn't say anything so I can go sleep happily with 3 points in our bag

Up until the middle of the second half, Depor looked very good. Then we looked pretty tired and out of ideas. I guess some of the issues have to do with the fact that Oltra can't change who those players, especially our strikers, actually are. We still look weak in the final third. Riki still seems unconvincing in front of goal, even in Segunda, and Lassad didn't do much (might have something to do with Ramadan, but if he's fasting, why is he playing?). The game should have been 3-0 by HT.

The midfield was pretty strong for the most part. I think Alex looks great, he was all action, and seemed very strong in both attack and defense. Oltra did some interesting things with getting Salomao in and keeping him as a central attacking mid, left sided, with Guardado on the wing and Valeron to the right. Dani's class is way above Segunda, and he saved us two points today. I think having him in goal will probably get us at least three times that number of points.

There's more work to do, but Depor's problems are the same: Strikers have to score.
