Default Copa | Depor 3v1 Levante | Dec 13 | Post Match Comments

I didn't get to watch the game from start to finish but saw glimpses every now and again and the thing that stood out for me was that our finishing has got a lot more clinical.
The goals were a mixture but all fine goals. The first came from a brilliant run by Riki who took the ball to the touchline before pulling it back for Alvarez to smash into the net.
Saul got the 2nd but I didnt see the ball through, however, he took the shot on first time and drilled it into the bottom corner for a fine goal.
Aranda pulled a goal back for them but we restored the 2 goal lead within minutes as Saul got his 2nd with an audacious chip over their stranded keeper.
It reminded me of Erif Cantona's chip for Man Utd v Sheff Utd quite a few years ago and it was class.

From the bits I saw we looked OK but maybe not great. We gave the ball away quite cheaply at times but Levante didn't look like they could take advantage.

Good result and the next round is a possibility, although by no means a guarantee with our away form.

I only started watching after minute 75, so I didn't miss Saul's jewel. Nice to hear Riki had such a big part in the first goal. Great score to keep the lads motivated!

Great win, I love the fact that we are growing. Still need to work on defense, against Las Palmas I wan't to see a clean sheet.

I'm assuming this wasn't a misprint!!

About the game, there were some positives.

1. Our reserves are better than Levante's reserves.
2. Saul's crosses and corner kicks were good, although they didn't lead to any goals. He looked lost when he changed to the left wing and Salomao looked the same on the right. Both were playing well up until then.
3. MP had a solid game at left back and was rarely threatened directly. He's definitely a better option than Ayoze.
4. Riki standing up for once in the penalty area and creating a goal. Please Riki, remember that play and stay on your feet more in future.
5. Juan Carlos. Again the younster looked hungry and right up to the final whistle (watch the last 30 seconds again) he was running all over the place demanding the football. His passing is crisp and effective. He also made one brilliant burst through two players near the end and just failed to break the final tackle. A certain star in the making.

Solid performance, with some good passes out of defence to the midfielders. He looked comfortable all night. I'd like to know what MP was saying to him as they walked off the pitch at the end. My guess is that they were discussing the circumstances around Levante's goal.

In fairness, the two pivotes and the back four operated very well as a unit, closing up tight and allowing very little space for Levante to operate through the middle.

Yes, I agree. I saw him do that more than once last night. A genuine pro.

Great win, sucks we gave up that goal to Levante in the end. It may cost us. But whatever, our main goal is to finish top 2 in our league. It would be nice to see us go far in the competition, but we can't forget our main priority.

I honestly think we'd me mid-table if we were still in first. There are so many worse teams than us in primera right now, it's a shame we were unfortunate last season.

But the 2-secund goal was a weird on great finish but did he not get the ball from a levante player? his secund an 3th was a great goal.

Yes, probably. That's what I think too. In fact Levante's goal, IMO, it's a mistake of MP breaking the off-side. Rochela went forward to block the pass but MP not only stood still there but also even step back some meters allowing the position of Aranda with his action.

I couldn't see the whole match yesterday (I'm doing a course for a job), but it seems we are finally reaching the expectations about this team, playing more solid and regular, improving in defence and also showing some great combinative plays in attack. It was an important for the confidence of our reserves, and they did a fantastic job. Good feelings.
