Default Liga | Xérez v Depor | May 20 | pre-match comments (20h00 CET)

First time on the season in which we can secure the promotion

But we will need this:

* To win this game
* To see Celta losing or drawing at home against Alcoyano or
* To see Valladolid losing at home against Sabadell

It seems dififcult, mainly for the rivals of Celta and Valladolid

19/05 18:00 RC Celta -CD Alcoyano
20/05 20:00 Xerez CD -RC Deportivo
20/05 21:30 Real Valladolid CF -CE Sabadell FC

The visits of Depor to Xérez
2009-10 Xerez CD 0 - 3 RC Deportivo
1990-91 Xerez CD 3 - 0 RC Deportivo
1989-90 Xerez CD 3 - 1 RC Deportivo

1988-89 Xerez CD 0 - 1 RC Deportivo
1987-88 Xerez CD 2 - 1 RC Deportivo
1986-87 Xerez CD 1 - 2 RC Deportivo
1982-83 Xerez CD 0 - 0 RC Deportivo

Am I the only one who feels this whole play-offs things to be unfair? I mean, all three Depor, Celta and Valladolid vastly deserve the promotion over the rest of the teams, the table doesn't lie. Non of them should have to play 2 (?) extra games to prove it.

I can see your argument, but the spectacle of the playoff is always really exciting to watch. It would not surprise me to see these three teams get promoted anyway.

No doubt about that. For example, Celta or Valladolid will be dying till the final matchday to get the second place, while Hercules might field the b-squad in the last 2 games, and play the play-offs with clear advantage.

Oh, for once a thank you to the LFP for putting us on the Sunday schedule.

Yesterday's win was pretty massive, and with a win here there's absolutely no chance we'll bottle it. A focused performance should do it against a team with nothing to play for.

Hopefully, Celta will fail to win on Saturday, which will mean we'll know the win on Sunday will be good enough to celebrate promotion.

Valladolid kick off 90 minutes after we do, so will have some idea how we're doing but to be honest, I think Valladolid will not be too bothered about us and will be more bothered about Celta's results.

I can't see Lassad starting on Sunday. He was limping noticeably when he left the pitch last night.

I think the league has become a lot more interesting thanks to the play-offs. Without that system, the league would've been a done deal. Hercules, Alcorcon and Cordoba would be playing for nothing. In a second division, I'd say those play-offs are necessary to make the league interesting until the very end. This year Celta or Valladolid will be the victim, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

In England West Ham deserved the promotion as well, yet they finished third and had to enter the play-offs. They already reached the final though. If Valladolid/Celta really deserve to go to Primera, it's up to them to prove that in the play-offs.

Hercules, Alcorcon, and Cordoba play for nothing this way as well in the coming 4 rounds, just they get an extra and equal chance to play against a team, that was much better than them all season long. Maybe there is a motivation to avoid 6th place and to play Celta/Valladolid in the first round, but you should win against them anyway, so....

The German promotion knock-out system is much better, although it ended up in massive riots on every professional level

The German second division has 18 teams, Segunda and the Championship 22 and 24. Don't see how you can compare that.

I also don't see how it's unfair to Valladolid or Celta either. That's just the way football is. Only two teams get promoted, that's how it works. You can't let every team that had a good season in Segunda get promoted to Primera.

I can't remember 2009/10 game vs. Xerez...which competition was that? Have we met them in CdR back then?
