Default LIGA | Aug-20-2017 | matchday 01 | Depor 0v3 Real Madrid | Post-match thread

Depor 0 Real Madrid 3 (Bale, Casemiro, Kroos)

As expected, they had a lot more quality than us but we had more chances than them in the 1st half but Keylor Navas won his personal duel with Andone.

Ruben made a terrible mess which led to their 1st goal while the 2nd could have been better defended against.

Kroos scored in the 2nd half while Andone missed a penalty in the last minute. Ramos should have gone for a red card earlier after an incident with Schar and finally got a 2nd yellow in injury time.

It has to be said that we were playing what is currently the best team in Spain, so we shouldn't be too concerned but next week the season starts for real.

It was easy for them but still not easy.

Lil more sharpness and 3-3. I'm not upset too much.

1- Ruben should have done better in that first goal
2- Good game by Juanfran and Luisinho
3- I said this last season, but there is a reason Guilherme doesn't play for Madrid or Barca. Re-watch the 3rd goal and you will see what I mean.
4- I expected a little more from Cartabia and Bakkali today
5- I wouldn't sell Andone for less than 20M, but he needs to get his sxxt together and start scoring some goals.

RM destroyed our right side, where Fede and Guilherme gave Juanfran no assistance at all. Fede in particular needs to work on the defensive aspect of his game - very disappointing. Andone deserved a goal. It's not easy feeding off scraps against the best team in the world. As Carlos said - at least twice as good as last year when we conceded 6 against their reserves. Move on.

Cartabia is a slow starter, just remember his first season with us.. Bruno Gama looks more involved and should start instead of Cartabia.. Sidnei still has his head somewhere else, meanwhile Schar looked more involved.. anyway, we didn't get humiliated at least, let us move on to Levante..

EDIT: I still cannot believe how Ruben spilled that collection.. at worst, I expected him to make mistakes similar to Lux or Tyton but this was a regular collection which was spilled due to nerves.. yesterday, it was our lack of belief that beat us and not the class of Real Madrid.. the entire team looks instantly under pressure making silly mistakes when we face the big teams at the Riazor..

I'm just iterating what many already said. This team just trashed Barcelona twice and we would be fools to believe we could get something out this game.
It is nice though to see that we had some good scoring chances and that we tried to be agressive several times after the 0-2.

Borges and Fede had an off day. Borges probably because he doesn't fit in that role especially if the opposing side is putting so much pressure.

Andone did a decent job. He was "unlucky" on most of the occasions. It is a shame he missed the penalty (very bad execution). That wouldn't have changed anything in the score if not boost his confidence.

Andone needs few chances before scoring. That is why he is still not a world class striker. When he starts scoring against big teams his goals will weight more and we will start fighting for at least a point. We could have done better. Let's learn from this game and show what we've got against Levante.
Don't see the problems, see the decisions!

american123 is off the scale

Just got to watch the replay of the game.

1. Andone created a lot of chances and I could see him scoring another 10-15 goals. If he can work on his finishing he scores 20-25 goals and is sold to an EPL team for 20+,

2. Guillherme is a very good attacking defensive mid. He is the worst defending defensive mid I've ever seen. I've said it before but we really need someone there to break up plays and Guillherme does not fit that mold at all. Maybe Edu can become that player as the season goes on.

3. Sometimes a manager sees something in practice that we don't. A lot of times they are wrong. In this case, Mel was right. We could use a GK and keep Ruben as a backup but his mistake changed the game completely.

All in all a decent showing by us and hoping for at least a point vs a Levante team who looked very good against Villareal today.
