Crisis at Deportivo as Fernando Vázquez only has 13 players available at the first team. There is one positive COVID-19 case and six men dealing with muscle issues.

Deportivo return into the league after two straight presentations in Copa del Rey. The game at Zamora CF (Ruta de La Plata, Sunday, 17h30 CET) not only mark the first league meeting in 2021, but it’s also the last game of the first round. The team needs to recover the lost ground after the defeat with Celta B, and this is a key test, because Zamora CF is a direct rival for the first three places.

And coach Fernando Vázquez has a crisis due to the several casualties hitting his team. At least eight men will miss Sunday’s game, therefore the coach only has thirteen players available at the first team. First to all, the COVID-19 situation. On Monday the club detected a positive case at the squad, which is presumed to be Uche Agbo.

On Thursday, a second positive case was detected, the name of the player wasn’t revealed, but a few hours later the club revealed that it was a false positive. Still, that player is in isolated for precaution and the rest of the squad tested negative on Thursday.

Then the situation with the injured players. Six men are dealing with muscle injuries. Miku, Borja Galán and Erik Osede are close to return, but it won’t happen in this matchday. and on Friday the coach informed that three additional men are out for muscle problems: Eneko Bóveda, Claudio Beauvue and Héctor Hernández. Galán trained with the team on Friday, but the coach already anticipated that he won’t be available.

Finally, the case of José Lara, who is serving the last game of his suspension after been sent off against Pontevedra CF. This opens the door to the Fabril’s players as only thirteen men are available at the first team.

On Wednesday, Álex Barba and Manu Mosquera debuted with the team in Copa Del Rey, and now both could earn a spot. Iván Guerrero and Peke were also picked, while Adri Castro is also available after been in isolation. Juan Rodríguez won’t be picked as he is dealing with a muscle problem too.

Another problem for Deportivo will be the weather. There’s a cold wave affecting Spain, and during the weekend low temperatures are expected. In Zamora it could be around 3 degrees Celsius by Sunday.

At Zamora CF, the team from Castile and León was also busy in midweek as it was playing in Copa del Rey. And has it happened to Deportivo, Los Rojiblancos were eliminated by a Primera club, in their case it was Villarreal CF (1-4).

Coach David Movilla has no injury concerns for the game against Deportivo. He made rotations in Copa Del Rey as players like Dani Hernández, Vallejo or Sergio García were rested. It’s an important game for Zamora CF as they are out of the promotion zone, though only by a point. Actually, they will tie Depor in case of a victory.
