FERNANDO VÁZQUEZ LEAVES DEPORTIVO

12 Jan 2021
Fernando Vázquez was sacked on Monday after the defeat at Zamora CF. He only suffered 6 defeats in his 29 games of his second stage at the club, but the feelings and the importance of the losses have paved his way out.

Fernando Vázquez is no longer the coach of Deportivo. He directed the training session on Monday, and later he was informed that his contract has been resigned. It’s the immediate consequence of the defeat at Zamora CF, but also the expected outcome after the poor football displayed by the team during this campaign.

The result at Zamora CF was unexpected, to the point that nothing was decided until Monday. Actually, the coach was pretty sure he was going to continue. As he told reporters after the game, “I'm very good, I'm perfect. I don't have any kind of weird feeling. We lost, but we will win again, there is no doubt. The feeling is that it wasn’t going to be easy at all, I said it many times. This situation is going to be overcome, without a doubt. Let appreciate Segunda B, it isn’t an easy league, not at all. Of course, I am concerned. We are at a bad moment, because we arrived with many casualties, but it isn’t an excuse for this defeat. What we saw is what the team gave, and it was quite poor.”

This is the end to the second stage of Vásquez as Depor’s manager. And his numbers weren’t bad at all, he coached the team in 31 league games (29 in liga and 2 for Copa Del Rey), achieving 15 victories, 9 draws and only suffering 7 defeats. The problem was that 3 of those 7 defeats were extremely painful and expensive, starting with the 2-3 with Extremadura UD that cost the relegation to Segunda B.

Later the straight losses with Celta B (1-2) and Zamora CF (0-1), results that could cost the spot in the promotion zone at Segunda B. The sack of the coach is also a consequence of the poof football practiced by the team, actually all of the 15 victories achieved with the Galician coach were narrow scores, something always criticized by the public.
