New disappointment for Deportivo. The team improved, but it didn’t create too many chances and neither seize the few ones in favor. The team is out of the promotion seats.

Coach Rubén De La Barrera presented the expected 4-4-2 formation, the novelty was the debut of Raí Nascimento. The Brazilian winger arrived in midweek and was a starter despite only completing five training sessions with the team.

Carlos Abad was the starting goalie. Jorge Valín covered the right side in defence, the left flank was for Salva Ruiz. The central positions were covered by Erik Osede and Borja Granero. Uche Agbo reappeared and joined Celso Borges at midfield. Keko Gontán and Jose Lara attacked from the wings, then Raí was playing with Miku in attack.

At Unionistas, coach Hernán Pérez switched the draw into a 4-4-2. Aythami Perera was left on the bench, so the attacking duo was composed by Diego Hernández and Álex Rey. Carlos de La Nava returned to the starting formation after been a substitute in the previous game.

Decent first half for Deportivo. The team showed the offensive moves that were expected since the start of the season, many of this had to do with the return of Keko Gontán. The problem is that the number of shots continued to be low; actually, the only shot on target for the locals came until the final minute.

Deportivo had an explosive start. Keko and the debutant Raí was leading the charge, though the locals didn’t have any clear chance to score for at least thirty minutes. But the impulse was at least enough to lock the rival at their side of the pitch. So, the locals gave the impression to be dominating.

At minute 12, Lara dribbled his mark on the left wing and entered the area in order to release a cross, he was pushed by a rival and the referee didn’t whistle the penalty. The Galicians reduced the pressure on the next minutes, but it was still dominating the ball possession.

Unionistas were content with the goalless draw and only released a couple of counterattacks trying to surprise the locals. Depor finally had a chance to score at minute 21, Keko won the ball at the right wing after a long throw from Valin, he released a cross that Miku couldn’t connect at the box.

The first chance for the visiting side came at minute 25. Uche Agbo made a bad pass at midfield, De La Nava collected it and ran to end assisting Diego Hernández, who sent the ball over the crossbar firing from the edge of the area.

Depor were still dominating, but Unionistas were looking sharper at the moment of approaching the rival’s area. At minute 32, a new combination between De La Nava and Diego Hernández ended with a low shot that was deflected by Carlos Abad.

Los Blanquiazules were completing a good first half, they had the initiative and had combinative game in attack, something unseen in the most recent games, but Depor were still missing to create a clear chance to score. So, it wasn’t strange to realize that the first shot on target for the locals came until minute 45, it was a drilling attempt of Lara blocked by visiting goalie Miguel Serna.

Deportivo wasn’t desperate in the second part, it continued having the ball and this time it was ending the plays, but simply the goal didn’t arrive and now the crisis is deeper as the other results are pushing the team out of the promotion seats.

The second half started in the same way then the first as Deportivo started to push since the kick-off. At minute 46, Uche Agbo stole the ball at midfield and released a shot that went over the crossbar. Depor had the same pressure of the first half, the difference in the second part is that they were ending the plays.

At minute 51, Lara headed the ball out after a cross from the right, in the next play, Valin released a cross that Keko headed on target, the ball was saved by Serna though Depor’s attacker was offside.

Clearer was the next chance of Keko, he collected the ball at the edge of the area and his low and strong shot passed close to the near post of Serna. Unionistas made offensive changes and the visiting side was close to score at minute 59, Osede failed in the mark of Ramiro and the defender was left alone inside the box in a free-kick action, and only the intervention of Carlos Abad prevented the goal.

Depor were seemed tired at the middle of the second part, and the coach lasted in the changes. The first substitution came until minute 77, Keko was tired and he was replaced by Borja Galán, then Claudio Beauvue claimed the spot of debutant Raí.

The locals never became desperate, they simply had the ball and waited for a final occasion that could break the deadlock. The true is that they were unable to create any clear chance within the final ten minutes, the only danger came in a play of b>Borja Galán on the left that ended with a curved shot that was deflected by Serna (84’).

Deportivo deserved the victory, it had more chances despite been scarce and practiced the better football, there was a noticed improvement, but still the draw is not enough after all the drought of recent weeks.

And it’s that Depor is now out of the promotion zone after spending 527 minutes without scoring a goal. Actually, the relegation zone is only three points away. The next game is the visit to Coruxo FC (Sunday, 12h00 CET).
