Important victory for Depor Ladies; it was an open game with several chances, but the goal of Alba Merino prevailed and now the team is three points away from safety.

Coach Manu Sánchez was still missing left-back Noelia Villegas, who was suspended for the past game with Rayo Vallecano, but that now was out injured (adductor muscle). Winger Carolina Arbeláez and Lady Andrade were also out due to physical problems. Depor Ladies B midfielder Tatiana Barcia ‘Tati’ was picked for the first time. The coach repeated the lineup of the past game, the only exception was Eva Dios in attack.

The season has been bad for Depor Ladies, the lack of support and the short of squad had affected a team that was the surprise on last season. But they remain alive. In this game they faced a direct rival in an open game with several opportunities, and the one of Alba Merino prevailed. The Ladies remain as the bottom club, but only three points away from the safety marked by Sporting Huelva.

Depor Ladies had the initiative since the start; Athena del Castillo had two opportunities within the first ten minutes. The first was a corner-kick that’s she took directly into the goal and the ball hit the crossbar (2’). Six minutes later, the same attacker made a solo-play and his shot passed close to the post.

In the second, Gey appeared again and completed a shot from the edge of the area and the ball went close to the post (22’).

The game became a road open and with Athenea leading the charge for Depor Ladies; at minute 25, Peke was entering the area when she was fouled by Pau García. The locals protested a red card, but the referee only showed the yellow card. In the resulting free-kick, Athenea smashed the ball into the wall.

The first half ended with a chance for each side. First, a lateral free-kick of Claire Falknor was cleared by Sullastres and the loose ball was sent out by Dany Helena (35’). Two minutes later, Alba Merino found the ball at the edge of the area and her shot went out.

The second half started with the same dynamic, because both sides were exchanging arrivals, and it was then when Depor Ladies scored. Gaby released a cross from the left, Peke deflected the ball through a header and Alba Merino collected the ball at the far post to send it into the back of the net.

The Ladies were having the initiative, but Sporting Huelva started to push searching for the equalizer. Sullastres made a key save against the shot of Mayra Ramírez (65’). Depor Ladies found some cracks in set-pieces, but they were unable to score the second goal.

Gaby could have scored the second in a corner-kick, but Falknor cleared the ball at the goal line (72’). Then Eva Dios headed the ball out heading a lateral free-kick by Alba Merino (82’).
