THINKING OF MALLORCA

18 Mar 2008
For Saturday's clash against Real Mallorca, Lotina will repeat the same line-up that defeated Real Madrid on the past weekend. The only doubt is to know who will replace De Guzmn who is suspended for the encounter. Meanwhile, coach Manzano has big problems to prepare the game, this because of the casualties in his squad.

Deportivo started to prepare the visit to Mallorca on Tuesday's morning. The squad was divided in four groups and coaches Eduardo Domnguez, Jos ngel Franganillo, Carlos Laln (physical trainers) and Jos Luis Ribera (Lotina's second coach) worked with the players using different physical exercises. Cristian worked separately since he's near to surpass his knee problem, while Valern and Wilhelmsson did the same because they had small muscular problems. Antonio Toms didn't end the session because he was suffering gastric problems.

After the training ended, coach Lotina attended to Abegondo's press room, he assured that for the game at the Ono Stadi, no changes will be made compared with the team that defeated Real Madrid, as one reporter asked about the appearance of Guardado as starter: "It's difficult, we have to recognise that 'Willy' and Lafita are adding a lot of things. To be changing just for the fact of making changes isn't correct. We also have Valern, who's out. Riki is also out. He's in an incredible shape. It's an advantage we have. But we are better now and people is giving their best. When will he (Guardado) enter? Not even I know that. I have to see how the things evolve."

But there's a change that Lotina must do, Julian de Guzmn is suspended after he picked his fifth yellow card of the season on the past matchday. The Basque trainer explained what are the alternatives that he have for the game "The logical thing is to put Antonio (Toms), Verd or Juan (Rodriguez). It's pretty sure it will come for one of this three players. But we'll see, we'll take a decision during the week. I've more options, this is only a change for one single game, because is not for injury reasons. Besides, it's a good thing for De Guzmn since he has played too much lately."

MALLORCA: CASUALTIES AND MORE CASUALTIES
The Mallorcans were living a positive moment at the start of the second round in liga. They clinched nine straight games without losing, but the mark was broke on the past weekend after they weren't able to hold on the initial advantage at Montjuic to end losing against Espanyol (1-2). The worse thing is the conflict between the players and referee Paradas Gmez, the one that whistled the game against the Catalans.

Paradas Gmez booked Ariel Ibagaza and Angelos Basinas for protesting his decisions while Sergio Ballesteros was sent off for the same reasons. Juan Arango also appeared in the report of the referee after the Venezuelan international said that Paradas Gmez was a 'thief'. The reason of the conflict was that the referee allowed the second goal of Espanyol during the final minute of the game despite that Arango was clearly fouled in the previous play. Even physical trainer Toni Servera and the assistant Jos Len were banned for one game due the same reason. At least, Arango wasn't suspended by the competition committee and he's able to face Depor on Saturday's game.

But the good news end on here, because coach Gregorio Manzano has more casualties for the game. First Guillermo Pereyra was sold to a Russian club a couple of weeks ago (FC Lokomotiv in a 3 million operation), a move that even surprised coach Manzano who admitted in a recent interview that he wasn't expecting the transfer. Besides, Gonzalo Castro (thigh), Pierre Webo (toe), Emilio NSue (muscular problems), Javier Dorado (knee) and ex-Depor Lionel Scaloni (bronchitis and hamstring strain) are out for injury reasons. Finally, striker Vctor Casadess was loaned to Real Sociedad during the winter window.

All of this is leaving coach Manzano without too many options in order to build a line-up, specially in midfield, sector in which he only have four available players: Arango, Jons Gutierrez, Tuni and Valero. One of the options is to advance the position of the defender Ivn Ramis, but the most probably  thing is that Manzano will have to call players from Mallorca B. The main candidates are midfielder Bernardo Alomar Carilimdiliman 'Bernat' and the strikers Nacho Casanovas and Diogo Fonseca

To make worse the things, Daniel Giza is doubtful after he picked a muscular injury in his left leg during the game against Espanyol. The ex-Getafe forward will be doubtful until the last minute and his condition will be evaluated once again on Friday. The Andalucian striker is the best scorer in Mallorca with fifteen goals.
