Elche FC made a new effort in order to sign Depor's striker Rub?n Castro, this in order to cover the long-term injury of Pere Mart?. There was an initial agreement with Deportivo, but at the end the deal collapsed due to the economical issue, and also for a rule in Spain that will force the striker to stay at Elche during six straight months.

A surprising move was made by Elche during the past weekend, the club that's currently trying to reach the promotion spots in Segunda Divisi??n contacted Depor in order to sign Rub?n Castro, a striker they already tried to incorporate during the past summer. The fact that will allow the deal is that they have a long-term injury case in the squad: Pere Mart?, a midfielder that suffered one week ago a knee injury that will sideline him during six months.

The rules in Spain allow any club to sign a replacement in this kind of cases, but there's a condition: this player must stay in the club for at least six straight months. This means that Rub?n Castro will be forced to stay at Elche until October of the present year, meaning he will have to continue at Elche at least during the first part of next season.

And that was the fact that blocked the transfer, Deportivo can offer a loan spell to Elche for the rest of the season, but not for the next campaign, because Elche will hardly pay the €600,000 of the player's salary, besides what Depor wants is to sell the striker during the summer or in other case, to loan him out to another Primera club. The solution can be the promotion of Elche to Primera, fact that will automatically mean an improvement in the economy of David Vidal's club, but it isn't a certain thing -Elche is fifth in the table, three points under the promotion zone- and Depor's official won't take risks.

During Monday, Rub?n didn't train with the squad because he was negotiation with both clubs. His agent, Antonio Sanz, confirmed the situation, as he talked with newspaper La Opini??n A Coru?a "The offer was over the table and we saw the issue as a positive thing, but Depor didn't want to assume the part of the player's salary that Elche wasn't covering, neither Rub?n. Elche offered €60,000 for the rest of the season plus a prize if the team was achieving the promotion, the reward was tripling the payment (€180,000), but it wasn't enough."

The same Rub?n talked with La Opini??n  and commented about the offer "I'm proud to see them thinking of me. What I want is to play and it's a hope to know I can do it at Elche, club that has the option of achieving the promotion." His hopes can end in nothing if Elche doesn't improve its offer, something improbable. Rub?n Castro has only played 278 minutes on the present season (liga & copa), his last participation in the line-ups was back on January during the 0-3 defeat at the Riazor against Atl?tico Madrid.
