REVIEW: MARINO 1 - FABRIL 0 (SEGUNDA B)

27 Apr 2008
Fifth straight defeat for Deportivo B and the promotion options are fading away. The Galician youngsters played a good first half, but they fell down during the second part. A new defensive error -the best sector in the first round and now the main weakness- when the encounter was ending has cost the three points. It's the worst moment of Fabril since Tito Ramallo took control of the squad.
Once again Tito Ramallo faced the game with several casualties for injury reasons: Laure, Ivn Prez, Guille and Fabricio. At least Chapi travelled to Asturias during Saturday's night after been sited on the bench for the game between Depor and Barcelona. Like it happened in the past game, Ramallo chose a 4-4-2 formation with Aridane and Lassad together in the striking zone. This time Chapi covered the right-back position replacing Borja who advanced his position in order to play as a right winger, while Piscu replaced Sergio Benito alongside Juanan in the centre of the defence.
Marino de Luanco is currently fighting in order to avoid the relegation, but they arrived to the game with a positive streak of six games without suffering a defeat. However, coach Jos Luis Quirs only had 16 available men for the encounter, the main absentee was veteran midfielder Pablo Lago, although the best scorer in the squad, Alberto Surez, was fit to play. The ex-Eibar had five goals in his personal account.
THE MATCH
The first half was really entertaining, both teams had several chances to take the lead and the football practised was brilliant during some minutes. The first chance was for Fabril, Borja sent a shot from mid-distance and the local keeper Guillermo cleared the danger (10'). The next two chances were for Marino, both opportunities for striker Rubn Surez.
First, the Asturian attacker headed over the crossbar a cross from Pablo Daz (15') and later the same player had an attempt from the edge of the penalty area (17'), the shot was stopped by Manu. Depor B responded with a cross of Ivn Carril that Juanan headed out (20') and with a shot of Lassad that was blocked by Guillermo (23').
The battle in midfield between the couples Pablo Daz-Rubn Surez and Carlos Pita-Alex Bergantios was intense and there wasn't a clear winner of this clash, reason why both teams had so many chances within the first twenty five minutes. Marino had the best occasions during the final part of the first half, mainly through Pascual Puente. First with a shot over the crossbar at the 26th minute, and later with a powerful shot that Manu brilliantly saved.
The occasions to score continued to emerge during the second half, although this time Marino was the side that insisted the most. Manu, the best player of Fabril in the game, saved once again his team after he blocked an attempt of Alberto Surez (49'), the play continued with a new cross that Pablo Daz couldn't find when he was standing in the goal line.
Marino started to dominate the match and Manu was the only obstacle that was keeping the scoreless draw, the Asturian keeper continued with his important saves and at minute 63rd, he stopped a dangerous volley from Alberto Surez , two minutes later the ex-Sporting keeper cleared to a corner-kick a crossed shot from Rubn Surez .The lonely chance for Fabril during this part of the game was a wide shot from Aridane (67').
Fabril seemed content with the draw and Ramallo started to make changes, he tried to win presence in midfield with the entrance of Nacho Matador while Herbert replaced a disappeared Ivn Carril. Rubn Rivera did the same with Aridane, but the changes were worthless and it was Marino who scored the goal when the game was ending.
The goal came nine minutes before the end, it was a collective error of Fabril's defensive zone during a throw-in for Marino, Pablo Daz penetrated by the right wing after a combination with Rubn Surez, then the midfielder sent a drilling cross that neither Manu nor Piscu were able to clear, at the end Piscu found the ball, but he hit Alberto Surez when he tried to clear the danger, the rebound entered into the net and broke the deadlock of the game.
The excitement witnessed during the whole game continued during the last minutes. Fabril had the big chance to tie the actions during the last minute, a cross from Herbert was headed by Borja, but the ball hit the crossbar, the same player found the rebound and shot on target, but this time Guillermo contained the ball. And during the stoppage time, the home team had the chance to increase the lead, but the shots of Ruben Surez and Nacho Garca went wide.
AFTER THE GAME
It was a game full of occasions, both teams fought hard in the first half, but the Galicians lost the impulse in the second part and Marino achieved a deserved win after the Asturians made their best second half of the present season. Depor B only reacted after the goal as Borja hit the crossbar, but there wasn't more time.
Fifth straight defeat for Fabril in Segunda B, negative mark that's the worst one with Tito Ramallo as the coach of Deportivo B. Now the Galicians are seventh and with a difference of three points with the fourth place. In order to reach the promotion series, Fabril needs to clinch the nine remaining points in the calendar. Two of those three games will take place at Abegondo, starting with next Saturday's game against Legans (17h00).
