THE SQUAD PLAYS TODAY THE SECOND GAME IN VENEZUELA

02 Aug 2008
Depor faces today the second friendly match in Venezuela, the rival is Maritimo Funchal from Portugal. Like it happened in the game against Minerven, it’s expected that Lotina will continue to test more alternatives in his line-up. Cristian and Xisco will probably don’t take part of the game since they have been facing physical problems.

The squad arrived to Caracas on Friday and it started to work on the same day. Lotina’s men are training at Caracas Sport Club. On Saturday, the team worked in a double session. The novelty was that neither Xisco (knee) nor Cristian (abductor) trained with the rest of players. It’s expected these two men will be out of the game against Maritimo Funchal (22h30)

The match against the Portuguese side will take place at the Olympic stadium in Caracas. Depor and Maritimo are fulfilling a tour in Venezuela mainly because this South American country possesses a big base of immigrants coming from Spain and Portugal. Maritimo even had a twin brother’ in Venezuela, a team called Club Sport Maritimo de Venezuela that was based in Caracas. The team was dissolved in 1995 due to financial problems

The Portuguese side already played two matches in Venezuela, in the first game they drew with Venezuela’s second-place Caracas FC (2-2). In the last game they defeated Carabobo (1-0). Maritimo ended 5th in the Portuguese league during the past season, reason why they will play the UEFA cup starting in the first round, meaning that Depor might find Maritimo on its way again during the near future.
