LIGA 2008/2009: BABYDEPOR?

06 Sep 2008
For the season 2008/2009, Deportivo is the fifth oldest squad in Primera Divisi??n. That’s the reality after analysing the ages of the 478 players inscribed in la liga. The exit of Adri??n, the final inscription of Bodipo, Mun??a and Aouate, plus the arrival of ?veteran’ reinforcements are the reasons why the average age at Depor is now of 27.45

After been presuming of having one of the youngest squads in la liga, Deportivo is now the fifth oldest team in Primera Divisi??n. The study has been prepared by RCDLC.com and the information is based in the players inscribed in the LFP as part of the ?first list’. This means that ?B players’ like Deportivo’s Fabricio were left out of this study. On the past season the average age of Depor’s squad was 24.70, this means the squad is now almost three years older after just one campaign. There are two explanations for this situation.

The first one is the inscription of ?discarded’ players like Aouate (30), Mun??a (28) and Bodipo (30), while young ones like Juanan and Fabricio were inscribed as ?B’ choices. The second explanation is the age of the new signings. For the season 2008/2009 the Galician club signed five incorporations, but only Z? Castro (25) is below the average age at Depor, while the other four can be considered as veterans: Aranzubia (28), Colotto (27), Omar Bravo (28) and Mista (29).

This data shouldn’t be a surprise for anybody, and it’s that only four players at Deportivo’s first squad are eligible for a U-23 team: Adri??n L??pez ?Piscu’ (21), Andr?s Guardado (21), Antonio Tom??s (23) and Laure (23). It’s true that goalkeeper Fabricio Augusto (19) was left out of this study, but if his age is included in the report, the average of the squad is just reduced in some decimals to 27.19

Adri??n L??pez ?Piscu’ is the youngest player at Deportivo (21) while Valer??n is the oldest (33). As it was said previously, only four players are below the 23, while only five are between the 24 and the 26: Lafita (24), Cristian (24), Verd?? (25), Z? Castro (25) and Juan Rodriguez (26). The thirteen remaining men are above the 27: De Guzm??n (27), Colotto (27), Riki (28), Pablo ?lvarez (28), Lopo (28), Omar Bravo (28), Mun??a (28), Aranzubia (28), Mista (29), Pablo Amo (30), Bodipo (30), Aouate (30), Sergio (31), Manuel Pablo (32) and Valer??n (33).

A GENERAL VIEW IN LA LIGA
The report was built up by RCDLC.com using the ?A list’ of players inscribed in la liga by each club (shirt numbers between 1 and 25). The data was transformed into numbers with two decimals in order to give a greater accuracy. The date used as base for the calculations was September 1, day in which the summer window closed its doors. Totally, 478 players were analysed in this study and the average age in Primera Divisi??n is 27.05. This means that Deportivo is just some decimals above the average in la liga. Talking about the averages in each squad, the situation is like this:

As it can be seen, UD Almeria is the youngest team in la liga, while Real Valladolid is the oldest. The difference between both teams is just of 2.67 years. The secret of Almeria is that they have two players under the 20’s (Piatti and Michel) and that in fact are between the ten youngest players in Spain. Besides they only have two players over the 30’s; Wilmer Acasiete (30) and Jos? Ort?z (31).

It’s also possible to classify the players according to their native countries. The Argentineans are the preferred foreigners in la liga since 36 players are coming from this South American country. Second place in Brazil with 22 players and third Portugal with 17.
