PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO - VALENCIA (COPA 22h00)

18 Jan 2006
Deportivo will face the first leg match against Valencia with six changes in the lineup. The main changes are the presence of Coloccini and Juli??n de Guzm??n in midfield. Meanwhile, Valencia arrive at La Coru?±a with the absences of Vicente, Albelda, Butelle and Kluivert. Mario Regueiro, David Villa and Rub?©n Baraja will command the team in the quest for a semifinal spot.

DEPORTIVO: NOVELTIES IN MIDFIELD
Caparr??s will present several changes to the team that suffered the 0-2 defeat against Alav?©s, the main one being the duo that he will introduce in midfield.  As he pointed out early this week, Duscher will rest after the problems he suffered during the warm up before the La Liga clash. For this reason Julian de Guzm??n will return to action after spending several weeks on the bench.

Sergio is another player who will miss the action.  Caparr??s will rest him and Fabricio Coloccini has proven himself in that position during the last training sessions. It’s not a strange job for the Argentine defender since played in that position with his national team during the Olympics.

The defensive zone will return to normal after the Liga suspensions of Capdevila and Andrade.  The Portuguese player and Juanma will perform in the central positions and Manuel Pablo will cover the right side.  Meanwhile, Capdevila will replace Romero on the left.

Munitis will also return to the left wing and Iv??n Carril will replace V?ctor on the right. It will be the youngster’s debut as a starter since he has only appeared as substitute so far. Valer??n also returns to the starting lineup after missing the first 45 minutes of the Liga match against Alav?©s. Trist??n, who has ended the last two games scoreless will start on the bench and his place will be occupied by Javier Arizmendi.

In this form coach Joaqu?n Caparr??s will make six changes to his team in order to find victory at the Riazor, a situation that he explained before the game: "I have to change something in the Riazor because in football there are no accidents. I am not satisfied with our current home statistics and we can't continue this way at home. Besides, Valencia is a team with a lot of trust and they are ascending the table quickly."

VALENCIA: VICENTE OUT
The main absence for Valencia is Vicente.  He suffered a right knee injury during last weekend's game against Osasuna and will be off the pitch for the next four to six weeks. Another important absence is the Valencian team’s captain David Albelda, who is having muscular problems. Other players who will miss the confrontation with the Galicians are the striker Kluivert, goalkeeper Butelle, defender Fabi??n Ayala and midfielder Hugo Viana.

Despite the absences, the optimism is high in Valencia.  They are going though a positive rally of nine matches without defeat and they have also accumulated six consecutive clean sheets including the two Copa confrontations against Villarreal. Coach Quique S??nchez Flores will make several modifications to his lineup.  The first one is the appearance of Mora as goalkeeper, and another novelty is the presence of Mario Regueiro replacing Vicente. The Uruguayan winger is living a sweet moment since he has scored two goals in the last three games.

The main doubt is the presence of Pablo Aimar in the starting lineup.  The Argentine player has been suffering from muscular problems and the coach could decide to leave him on the bench. David Villa could replace him although the striker has also been suffering physical problems in the last few days.  Meanwhile, Rub?©n Baraja will appear in midfield replacing Albelda.

Quique S??nchez Flores explained before the Copa confrontation the tactics he will use in the Riazor: "We will present the same strategy used in Villarreal. Since nothing guarantees us that the second leg game will be easier, we have to search for a good result in this game. The main thing is to achieve another clean sheet and to score goals. The best thing that can happen is a victory, but if we can't do that we will try not to lose this game."

The coach also gave his opinion about the current state of Deportivo: "They had a normal distraction after the vacations, but their potential is big, keeping in mind that they have a good coach and since they are playing at home, we can agree that this will be a very hard eliminatory game for us."
