After the first fourteen official matches of the season, things are getting clear for Deportivo. The performance of the team is marking two opposite scenarios, two different faces that are showed depending of the condition in which Depor plays: away or at the Riazor.

In the past liga campaign, Deportivo had a terrible first half of season playing at the Riazor, because the team only managed to conquer one victory there (against Betis) while other two matches ended in a draw (Zaragoza and Mallorca). The rest were just defeats (6). Later things improved in the second part of the tournament. And the positive tendency has continued on this season as Depor hasn’t lost yet after six official matches at home.

And it’s that Depor has only leaked one goal in those six games. No matter that only six goals were scored, the defensive solidity has prevailed and the fans are getting used to see again the old’ picture of a solid Riazor. The 78% of the points conquered in la liga (7 of 9) have been achieved there, while the European series with Bnei Sakhnin and Brann were also defined a home. Only the games against Mallorca in liga and Hajduk Split in UEFA have turned into a disappointment.

The official matches at the Riazor during this season:

1-0 Vs Bnei Sakhnin

0-0 Vs Hajduk Split

2-1 Vs Real Madrid

0-0 Vs Mallorca

2-0 Vs Brann Bergen

1-0 Vs Numancia

Away from home is where the things are twisted and where Depor could lose its objectives for the season, because it’s where the worst face of Deportivo has showed up. Things started well as Lotina’s side gave the first step to the UEFA defeating Bnei Sakhnin in Israel and especially after the Galicians eliminated Hajduk Split and all the Torcida at their own place.

But after that, things have been terrible for Lotina and his players. Of the last six visits made by Depor, the squad has lost four. And some of them in a humiliating way, like the 2-4 at Valencia, the 0-2 at Brann or the last 0-3 at CSKA Moscow.

The official matches away from home during this season:

Intertoto 2-1 at Bnei Sakhnin
UEFA 2-0 at Hajduk Split
Liga 0-1 at Villarreal
UEFA 0-2 at Brann Bergen
Liga 0-0 at Osasuna
Liga 2-4 at Valencia
Liga 0-0 at Racing
UEFA 0-3 at CSKA

And the biggest difference is without doubt the defensive performance. If at the Riazor Depor has only leaked one goal, away from home the Galicians have allowed eleven. In attack things are leveled, because Deportivo has scored six times at home and also six times away from La Coru?±a. However, this balance shouldn’t be considered as positive, because of the fourteen official games played so far, the squad has remained scoreless in the half of those matches.

Now Deportivo has the opportunity to wash away these statistics within the next eight days. First it has the chance to continue its strong performance at home with Sunday’s game against Sporting Gij??n (17h00). Later it will have a double chance to conquer its first away victory in two months. First during the Copa visit to Elche (Wednesday 29, 21h00), and later during next weekend’s liga visit to Betis (Sunday 02, 21h00). Both, Betis and Elche, are struggling to survive in their divisions.
