THINKING OF FEYENOORD

25 Nov 2008
After the great victory over Athletic Bilbao, Depor is now preparing the UEFA clash against Feyenoord. Lotina hasn’t tested yet any lineup, but it seems that Riki is out of the plans due to injury reasons, while Pablo Alvarez is already a confirmed casualty. Meanwhile, the Dutch side arrives on this day to La Coru?a and their main worries are also the injuries, because at least eight men are doubtful or already ruled out of the game.

Deportivo has been preparing the clash against Feyenoord Rotterdam since Monday. However Lotina will test a lineup for the game until today’s training at Abegondo (10h30 CET). What seems clear so far is that Riki won’t be fit for the clash. The Madrilenian is out since the past week due to a tendonitis, while Pablo Alvarez is already a confirmed casualty as he stepped out at the last minute of the game against Athletic after suffering a muscular contracture during the warm up. The problem will keep ?The Shark’ out of action during two weeks.

Besides, Rodolfo Bodipo has been ruled out for four weeks after sustaining a knee sprain during the game against the Basques. Therefore, if the absence of Riki is finally confirmed, Lotina will only have Mista and Omar Bravo as the only two alternatives in attack for the game against the Dutch side. Besides, Julian De Guzm??n resumed the trainings on Tuesday after surpassing his thigh injury, though it’s too soon for him and he could be left out of the UEFA clash against the team of his brother, Jonathan.

The good news for Lotina is that Albert Lopo is returning after the liga suspension, and that Andr?s Guardado seems fresh after playing the fully game on Sunday and after been with Mexico’s national team on the past week. Antonio Tom??s is also fit for the match no matter receiving a tough tackle in the liga game against Athletic Bilbao.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord Rotterdam is arriving to Spain after an impressive comeback at the Eredivisie. The Dutch side was in the drop zone one month ago, but now they are in mid-table after adding ten of the last twelve points in dispute. However they have been affected by a plague of injuries.

And its that Denny Landzaat, Michael Mols, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Kevin Hofland. Jonathan de Guzman, Ron Vlaar, Serginho Greene and Tim Vincken might miss or are already out of the game due to injury reasons. Defender Landzaat has sustained a hamstring injury and will be unavailable for a month, while experienced striker Michael Mols will also be unavailable for the next four weeks. The former Rangers forward also sustained a hamstring injury, it was a fortnight ago during the draw against FC Twente.

Midfielder Jonathan De Guzman, the brother of Julian, suffered a groin injury a few weeks ago, despite he has resumed the trainings, he is not fit for the game against Depor. Also, Jon Dahl Tomasson is out due to an ankle injury. The most bizarre case is the one of defender Kevin Hofland, he surprisingly missed the last match against Ado Den Haag due to an ankle injury caused by his dog, but coach Gert Jan Verbeek explained later that Hofland could be fit for Depor’s game.

Central defenders Ron Vlaar (foot injury) and Serginho Greene (knee ligament) are already out of the UEFA clash, while right winger Tim Vincken is sidelined due to a shoulder problem. At least ex-Depor man Roy Makaay is fit to play and even in form after scoring in the last game against Ado Den Haag (3-1).
