Deportivo is the team that’s capitalizing the most the goals conquered in la liga, and it’s that the scoring record of the Galicians is the worst one among the first 14 places in the Liga BBVA. Another thing to emphasise is that Deportivo is the team that has achieved more clean sheets at Spain’s first division.

It’s very simple to explain: So far only four teams have scored less goals than Deportivo at Primera Divisi??n, three of them are in relegation (Espanyol, Recreativo and Osasuna), while the other is UD Almeria, club that’s only two points above the drop zone. Fact that demonstrates that once again Depor’s strikers are living a drought’.

The positive thing is that the squad has managed to make profits with those goals, and it’s that each goal scored by Deportivo earns 1.5 points (24 points/16 goals). Nobody at Primera Divisi??n enjoys of the same ratio. As a way of comparison the situation with Atl?©tico Madrid. The team of Javier Aguirre has scored 33 goals in la liga, this means the double of Depor’s goals. A Curious thing is that the couple Forl??n-Aguero has already scored 17 goals, mark that means one more goal than the number conquered by  the whole Galician squad. However both teams are tied with the same number of points after 14 games.

What explains the situation is the fact that Depor rarely scores, but when it does it, it usually wins the match. After fourteen matchdays, in only two opportunities Lotina’s squad ended losing the game after been able to score a goal: 2-4 Vs Valencia (matchday 05) and 1-4 Vs Atl?©tico Madrid (matchday 11).In the rest of games in which Lotina’s side has scored a goal, it has conquered the triumph. Even the three draws on the liga season were achieved through goalless matches (Mallorca, Osasuna and  Racing).

Therefore, the current solid moment of Depor is without doubt caused by the defensive job of the squad, and the numbers demonstrates this. Because Deportivo has only leaked 14 goals after 14 matches, that’s the second best mark in la liga, only surpassed by the one of the leader Barcelona (9). Actually, in the previous 38 seasons that Depor spent at Primera Divisi??n, in only five occasions the squad has allowed fewer goals after the first 14 matchdays: 1992-1993 (11), 1993-1994 (5), 1996-1997 (7), 2000-2001 (11) and 2003-2004 (11).

Besides, Daniel Aranzubia is currently second in list for the Zamora trophy, his average is one goal per game and he's tied with Sevilla’s Palop. The first place in the list is Barcelona’s V?ctor Vald?©s with an average of 0.69 (9 goals leaked in 14 matches). Beyond this, Depor has achieved more clean sheets that any other team at Primera Divisi??n: 8.

And that number is extended to  15 taking in mind that Deportivo has played 25 games on the current season (14 matches in liga, 2 in Intertoto, 2 in Copa del Rey and 7 in the UEFA Cup). This means that Depor is keeping the ratio of 1 clean sheet every 0.6 matches. The mark of 8 clean sheets in the first 14 matchdays in liga is the second best record in the history of the club, only surpassed by the eleven clean sheets conquered back on the season 1993/1994.
