Miguel Angel Lotina is living the best moment since his arrival to Deportivo, his team has not been defeated in the last five official matches and is close to the Champions League places. The personal record of the Basque coach is eight games without defeats, something he might tie if Depor is able to survive the last three games of the year.

The Me?±aka-born trainer was close to be fired on the past season, but now his team is achieving very good results after a doubtful start. Specifically, his Deportivo has not been defeated within the last five official matches. The last defeat was the 1-4 setback at the Vicente Calder??n, since then the team has added four wins and one draw: 3-1 Vs Athletic, 3-0 Vs Feyenoord, 1-0 at Almeria, 1-1 at Lech Poznan and 2-0 Vs Malaga.

This mark represents the best moment of Lotina since he took charge of Deportivo, though it also happened on the past liga season as Depor achieved five straight wins at the final part of the tournament: 3-1 Vs Real Murcia, 3-1 at Racing Santander, 3-0 Vs Athletic de Bilbao, 1-0 at Osasuna and 2-0 Vs Barcelona. Precisely, that’s the only occasion in which a team coached by Lotina has added five straight victories. With Osasuna, Celta and Espanyol his roof was three straight wins, and with Logro?±es and Real Sociedad he never surpassed more than two.

Lotina could tie the mark of consecutive wins if his team is able to defeat Real Valladolid and Recreativo Huelva in the last two matchdays of the year. Another record that the Basque coach might repeat is the number of matches without been defeated, so far his personal record occurred with Osasuna during the season 2001/2002 and with Celta on the 2003/2004 campaign. In both occasions he reached the mark of eight straight games without defeats. Lotina would be able to tie this mark if his Deportivo is able to obtain positive results in the last two liga games of the year plus next Wednesday’s UEFA game against Nancy-Lorraine.
