THE CASE OF VERDU

29 Dec 2008
One of the priorities for Lendoiro during the year 2009 is to define, once and for all, the cases of the seven players ending contract at Deportivo. One of them is Joan Verd??, currently the president is negotiating with his agent, while his name has been mentioned as a possible target of Espanyol and Valencia.

The seven men ending contract with Depor in June of 2009 are Pablo Amo, Gustavo Mun??a, Manuel Pablo, Julian De Guzm??n, Sergio, Pablo ?lvarez and Joan Verd??. All of these players will have the right to negotiate with any other club starting on Thursday, this because the sporting legislation allows them to maintain conversations with any team if their respective contracts are expiring within the following six months.

Until this moment, Depor has only established contacts in order to negotiate a renewal with three of them: Manuel Pablo, De Guzm??n and Joan Verd??. The conversations with the last one started during the past weekend as his agent, M??gico D?az, arrived to La Coru?a in order to meet the offer of Deportivo and also to communicate the expectations of the player. It was just the first contact but it should give a clue to Lendoiro if the renewal is possible or not.

Verd?? is one of the players that have experienced the bigger growth in the year 2008, he started as the substitute of Valer??n and now he’s the starting option for the playmaking function at Lotina’s lineups. On the past season he was a starter in 16 occasions (liga), now with the first round still opened, he already made 11 appearances as starter and has also scored two goals. The same Lotina has expressed the necessity to secure his continuity at the squad.

But in the last days clubs like RCD Espanyol and Valencia FC have been linked with the Catalan player, according to Sportpaper AS both clubs are facing big financial problems and will only sign reinforcements through players ending contract in June of 2009. Similar is the situation with Manuel Pablo and De Guzm??n, players that have been linked with other clubs like Atl?tico Madrid and Tottenham. If Lendoiro wants to keep all of them, he will have to demonstrate his abilities to negotiate, this taking in mind that next season’s budget will also experiment a decrease, meaning that the money available for the players’ wages will be less.
