TWO POINTS AWAY FROM CELTA

31 Dec 2008
Who is the best Galician football club? A question that Celta’s fans have always answered looking at the historic table of Primera Divisi??n. But their excuse is about to end because Depor is about to pass Celta in the all-time standings. Just two points are separating both clubs in the global classification.

This is the season number 39 for Deportivo at Primera Divisi??n, the Galician club has played 1,280 matches and has added 1,545 points in those games, meaning that Depor is currently 12th in the all-time table of Primera. But Lotina’s squad is near to advance one position as its nemesis, Celta FC, is now only two points over Deportivo. This means that Depor only needs one more victory in order to be 11th.

The all-time table is build up taking in mind the seasons and the points added by all the clubs that have competed at Primera Divisi??n since its start 78 years ago. So far only three clubs have played all the possible seasons in the elite: Real Madrid, Barcelona FC and Athletic Bilbao. Those three clubs are currently occupying the first three places in the global standings, tough Valencia FC is close to reach Athletic. The Valencians have just missed four seasons at Primera and should pass the Basques during this liga campaign.

Atl?©tico Madrid, who is currently fifth in the standings, could also reach Athletic Bilbao soon, though the most probable thing is that the Madrilenians will do it during the next liga campaigns. Of the current first 15 clubs in the all-time table, two are currently playing at Segunda Divisi??n: Real Sociedad and Celta, while other is at Tercera: Real Oviedo.

Judging the points added by the clubs so far, only Deportivo and Valencia are able to advance a position during this liga campaign, at least within the first fifteen places in the table:
