Currently, of the first nine places in la liga, Deportivo is the side that has scored fewer goals. That’s a usual problem in recent seasons. And the main reason for the situation is the lack of goals of the strikers. So far, Riki is the most effective attacker at Depor’s squad.

Deportivo has only scored 36 goals on the liga season, this means an average of 1. 33 goals per match. Very low if Lotina’ side wants to earn a European place at the end of the campaign. It’s the worst record compared to the other eight teams fighting at the top of the table: Barcelona (78), Real Madrid (63), Sevilla (38), Villarreal (43), Atletico Madrid (56), Malaga (45), Valencia (47) and Valladolid (41).

And the main problem continues to be the effectiveness in attack, because the five attackers that have played on this liga season have only scored 10 of the 36 goals in the tournament, that means the 27.78% of the total: Riki (5), Bodipo (3), Mista (1), Omar Bravo (1) and Lassad (0).

As a way of comparison, the direct rivals for the last place in Champions League and both spots in UEFA are presenting a better mark. Atletico Madrid’s trio of strikers (Forl??n, Aguero and Sinama) have scored the 66% of the goals conquered by the Madrilenian team on the liga season (37 of 56), while the percentage is 60% at Malaga, 53% at Valencia and 44% at Villarreal. Even Real Valladolid, team that’s currently three points below Depor, has a better percentage: 34%.

Besides, the individual performances are marking a difference. At Depor, Riki has been on fire lately with three goals in his last two games, but the average of the ex-Getafe attacker is just of one goal scored every 170 minutes played in liga, this means almost one goal every two matches. Meanwhile, Bodipo scores one goal every 189 minutes, and the stats of Omar Bravo (294) and Mista (545) are below the expectations when both men were signed at the start of the campaign.

And that’s another big difference with the direct rivals for the European positions, because Atletico Madrid has Diego Forl??n (1 goal each 97 minutes) and Kun’ Aguero (158), while Valencia has David Villa (73.5), Villarreal has Rossi (126) and Malaga has Salva (73.5). All of these attackers present a better statistic than Riki. Only Valladolid is living a similar situation than Depor as its best striker is Goitom, the Swedish scores one goal every 174 minutes.

No matter this problem, Deportivo still involved in the fight for Europe. But it is also true that an improvement in this department will be really helpful if Lotina’s side wants to reach the UEFA Cup, and even the next UEFA Champions League tournament.
