THE SOLID SEASON OF JUANRO’

27 Mar 2009
Juan Rodr?guez is living his most solid season since his arrival to Deportivo, the midfielder has just missed four games in UEFA, and now he is taking a break in la liga competition since he’s suspended with five yellows. He even scored a couple of goals.

Andalusian midfielder Juan Rodr?guez picked his fifth yellow card of the liga season in last weekend’s confrontation against Real Betis, reasons why he is now suspended for next Sunday’s visit to Espanyol (17h00 CET, Montjuic). This means the first time on the season in which he won’t participate in a liga game.

And it’s that Juanro’ has played in all the twenty eight liga matches played so far, twenty one as starter and six in which he was a substitute. Totally, he accumulates 2,065 minutes on the liga season, the fourth highest mark at the team, only surpassed by Filipe (2,511), Aranzubia (2,423) and Lopo (2,294). Besides, he took part of all the four matches in Copa and only missed four of the ten games played in UEFA (Second-leg with SK Brann, the visits to CSKA Moscow and Lech Poznan plus the second-leg against AaB).

No matter the busy schedule, the Andalusian player feels fresh at this point of the season, as he recently confessed in an interview at newspaper La Opini??n A Coru?±a, â€?I am very well. The preparation of the squad is designed, since the beginning, to see the team in perfect condition at this stage of the competition. We are living a situation that we all wanted, with a clear objective, which is to try to get into a European competition. This means that we will be fresher."

The ex-Malaga also appointed that a key for his regularly on the campaign was to see him playing in his normal position at midfield, "Perhaps because on this year, I have been playing many more matches in my normal position at the centre of the field. Other years I had to switch to other positions. Where I feel more comfortable is at the centre of the pitch, which is my normal position, from that starting point you can explain my regularity."

Finally, Juan Rodriguez said that Depor is living an envy situation and that the squad will fight in order to enter into Europe, "It was a pity to not have achieved a win in the last game, but sometimes these things happen. We must think that if we wouldn’t have had any problem, we would be right now in Champions League. I'm not surprised to see us with 43 points at this stage of the league, because the team's potential is great, but we achieved this based in our work, humility and hope, and we'll keep trying until the end in order to enter into UEFA."
