THE NIGHTMARE OF MISTA

03 Apr 2009
Mista sent signs of life at the beginning of the season as he scored a goal against Real Madrid, but since then he wasn’t able to contribute to Depor’s cause. Lately, an injury has kept him out of action and is even feared he won’t play more on the season.

The development of the season 2008/2009 hasn’t been positive for Miguel Angel Ferrer Mista’, the ex-Valencia and ex-Atletico striker that was signed at the start of the campaign. He started well scoring a goal in the liga opening game against Real Madrid, but since then he has been in shadows. He has played 22 times for Depor (liga, Copa, UEFA and Intertoto).

In liga he has accumulated 574 minutes on the pitch, with one goal scored, three shots on goal and one to the post. Mista’s numbers are poor since he fires on target once every three hours of playing time. For the clash with Aalborg (February 18), he wasn’t fit to play, but Riki and Bodipo were injured, while Omar Bravo was on his way back to Mexico. Then he made an effort to play and ended paying the price.

Because previously to that game, the Murcian attacker was dragging a problem in the pubis region, injury that got worse as he played against AaB. At the beginning of March, the doctors analysed his case and determined that the player needed a break of three weeks in order to improve his condition.

But one month later, Mista hasn’t evolved positively. He hasn’t been working with a physiotherapist and the problem hasn’t been solved. Now the doctors are talking about a chronic case of pubalgy. Doctor Rafael Arriaza talked about the case on Wednesday and announced the return of the player has been delayed in other three weeks.

Asked if Mista would be able to play again on the present season, Arriaza answered: I hope so, but if he doesn’t play, nothing happens. If it isn’t on this season, it will be in the following one. The thing is to see him fully recovered. At the same time, the doctor warned that a surgery hasn’t been discarded as a possible solution to the problem, We can not discard an operation if he’s regressing in his development.
