SIX AND THIRTEEN

19 May 2009
Deportivo has tied the best mark of straight unbeaten matches with Lotina, and enjoys of its best streak in six years related to the number of consecutive games scoring at least one goal. But not even like this the team has bee able to secure a European spot for next season, at least for the moment.

Lotina’s Deportivo still living a sweet moment on the season, the club is just three points away of tying the number added during the first round (30) and its enjoying of its best statistical period with fourteen points added within the last six liga encounters: 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao, 2-0 Vs Almeria, 1-1 at Malaga, 1-0 Vs Valladolid, 2-1 at Recreativo, 1-1 Vs Getafe.

Precisely, it is the second time on the season in which Deportivo accumulates six straight liga games without suffering a defeat. It did it too at the start of the second round as Depor added twelve points between matchdays 21 & 26: 3-0 Vs Villarreal, 1-1 at Mallorca, 0-0 Vs Osasuna, 1-1 Vs Valencia, 1-0 at Numancia and 5-3 Vs Racing Santander.

These are the only two times in which the team has clinched this mark since Lotina is the coach of Deportivo. With Joaqu?n Caparr??s, the best mark was eight straight liga games without losing: between matchdays 17 & 24 of the season 2006/2007: 2-0 Vs Real Madrid, 1-1 at Recreativo, 0-0 Vs Espanyol, 1-1 At Zaragoza, 1-0 Vs Mallorca, 2-0 At Villarreal, 0-0 Vs Levante and 1-0 at Real Sociedad.

Another interesting mark is the one of the straight games in which Depor has scored at least one goal. So far the Galician team accumulates a record of eighteen goals scored within the last thirteen matches. Depor doesn’t end scoreless in a liga game since January 14 after the goalless encounter against Osasuna at the Riazor.

This is the first time in six years in which Depor accumulates a streak so long, the last time Depor achieved a mark so high was on the season 2002/2003: 18 straight liga games scoring at least one goal. Something that occurred between matchdays 09 &26. At the time Irureta’s Deportivo scored 32 goals during those 18 liga matchdays. No matter what, the numbers and the positive streaks haven’t helped Depor to achieve a European place; this after the 1-1 draw with Getafe pulled back the Galician team to the seventh spot in liga.
