THE BIG OPPORTUNITY OF IVAN PEREZ

20 May 2009
Iv??n P?rez Maceiras is the next player of Deportivo B that will make the jump to the first squad. He is ending contract in June, but Lotina already said that he will have a chance in the upcoming pre-season 2009/2010. His big chance to join the elite.

Almost everything was negative for a Fabril that suffered the relegation to Tercera Divisi??n during the present season, but one of the most pleasant surprises was to witness the growth of playmaker/right winger Iv??n P?rez Maceiras (23, born in Santiago de Compostela), specially during the last part of la liga season. He ended the campaign tied with Lassad as the top-scorer at the team (8), all thanks to his six goals scored within the last eight matches. Besides, he ended as the top assistor at the squad with 12 assists.

No matter his height (171 cm), his skills with the ball and in set-pieces have been important for Fabril. It was common to see him assisting his team mates through his corner and free-kicks. Lotina has saw a potential in him and already decided to give him a chance for the pre-season 2009/2010, as he said on Tuesday at Abegondo, ?I have spoken with him and the president, and both know it. I want to see him in the pre-season and I smell something good.?

Iv??n is already training with the first squad, since the season of Fabril ended on the past week, he and central defender Juanan have been working with the first team and they will continue doing it until the end of the campaign. But the Santiago-born player can’t join any of the remaining two games at Primera Divisi??n since he is already 23 and there’s a restriction in the rules that avoid his alternation between Depor’s first and second team.

P?rez received the news of Lotina’s decision with pleasure, but he still skeptical about his chances ahead of next season, ?It has been a pleasant surprise, but I am cautious. Until I don’t see myself there, I won’t think I will be making the pre-season with the first team. I just think of the day by day. It is fine to see the coach saying those things after watching you for two or three days, but before that, we need to be cautious, to keep working and gaining experience from all these people, who are very skilful. I am not in a hurry, I just have to train and wait. The coach is who has the last word.? Comment the player made to newspaper La Opini??n A Coru?a.

His skepticism is normal taking in mind that Caparr??s promised a similar thing to him in the past, something that was never fulfilled as the Andalusian coach forgot about him after calling for a couple of trainings with the first team. Another important thing to have in mind is that the player is ending contract in June, though Iv??n P?rez explained to reporters that Deportivo has the option to automatically sign a renewal, ?At the moment, I signed that clause that all the B players have, in which Depor keeps the right of my last year of contract. My sign and my word are above everything. I will do whatever Deportivo tells me. Besides, no matter my injuries I have been always treated really well. I need to be a person and a gentleman.?

P?rez also said that he is open to help Fabril to achieve the promotion from Tercera Divisi??n, but that a conversation with coach Tito Ramallo has opened his eyes about this matter, ?He told me that in life you must continue forward. You also need to think of yourself and not so much in the collective.?
