GOOD-BYE DE GUZMAN

26 May 2009
RCDLC.com player of the season 2007/2008 Julian De Guzman has left Deportivo. The Canadian has the permission of Lotina in order to play for Canada on Saturday, since the squad will start to enjoy of its vacations after the game with Barcelona, he can consider himself as an ex-player of Depor.

Without making too much noise, midfielder Julian De Guzman has left Deportivo. Lately, the Canadian midfielder wasn’t entering into the plans of coach Lotina, and that’s why he asked permission to join the national team of Canada ahead of a friendly game against Cyprus (Saturday, May 30). In that same day Depor plays against Barcelona the last game of the liga season, and will go on vacations after it.

Therefore and since the Canadian is ending contract in June, he will never play again wearing the Blanquiazul shirt, actually it was reported that he went  to Abegondo and took all his things for Depor’s training pitch, meaning that he isn’t thinking in returning after Canada’s match against Cyprus.

De Guzm??n arrived to Deportivo for the season 2005/2006 as a personal bet of Richard Moar, the sporting secretary of the club and one of Lendoiro’s main advisors. He didn’t have a starting role with Caparr??s (22 liga appearances on the season 05/06 and 20 in the 06/07). But with the arrival of Lotina things changed for him.

And it’s that on the past campaign, De Guzm??n was a key piece in the recovery of the squad during the second round, he played 35 of the 38 liga matches, 33 has starter, and was the lung at midfield. The fans of Depor liked his effort and he was rewarded with the RCDLC.com player of the season 2007/2008 award.

But his role changed completely for the present campaign, he lost presence in the squads and only completed 20 appearances at Primera Divisi??n, basically because Lotina was now preferring to use Andalusian Juan Rodriguez in his position. Besides, he had some poor presentations with the team.

Also, the Canadian has maintained a legal battle against the club due to some unpaid image rights and bonuses. His good-bye at the Riazor occurred in the home game against Atletico Madrid (matchday 30), his name has been linked with a move to the Premier League in England, but so far nothing has been confirmed.
