THINKING OF TENERIFE

01 Oct 2009
Adrián is doubtful ahead of the clash at Tenerife, while Zé Castro is already fit to play. Juca is the only discard so far. Meanwhile, the rival is facing the match with several casualties due to the injuries

Ahead of Saturday’s match against CF Tenerife (18h00 CET), the main doubt for coach Miguel Angel Lotina is the condition of the striker Adrián López. The Asturian has been a starter in the last two liga games, but he is now doubtful due to a pubis problem suffered after the win over Villarreal and Lotina already admitted that he could miss the clash, “We will see if Adrián will be ready for Saturday, right now he is tired and suffering muscular injuries”. The coach said on Tuesday.

Who is already discarded is midfielder Juca, the Brazilian will be out of action during fifteen days after suffering an intramuscular edema during the last game at the Riazor. Lotina is content with Sergio and it seems that the Catalan will stay in the lineup, while Antonio Tomás and Juan Rodriguez are the choices to replace Juca.

On Tuesday the club complained about the difficulty to find plane tickets to Tenerife, the problem is that since the date and hour of the liga encounters are announced just one week before the games are played, then is more difficult to find the proper connections in the airlines. In the end the team is traveling on Friday stopping off in Madrid.

Andrés Guardado attended to the press room after Wednesday’s session, the Mexican was explaining the concerns of Lotina about the performance of the team, “He has been insisting in our positioning, we aren’t pressing as he wants, he doesn’t like to leave too many spaces between the lines, he likes to play with the pivotes in a more delayed position in order to give more space to the strikers.. Those are the situations that he likes and that wants to change; that’s what he has been asking to us.”

At Tenerife, there are three long-term casualties at the squad of coach José Luis Oltra: Right-back defender Marc Bertrán (ankle fracture, four months out); midfielder Ricardo Leon (nose fracture, five weeks out) and the central defender and captain of the team Manolo Martínez (stress fracture, two week out).

At least midfielders Juanlu Hens (ankle sprain) and Román Martínez (knee contusion) begun to train during the week and might be available for the clash against Deportivo. Coach Oltra could be tempted to call some youngsters from Tenerife B, actually keeper Toño Ramírez and midfielder Julio de Dios have been training with the team since Tuesday.
